Root WiFi Tether issue

I'm sure someone else has had an issue similar to mine, but haven't been able to find it. Every time I try to use WiFi Tether with my Evo 4G LTE that is rooted with SuperSU and stock my phone shuts it down within minutes. I have come to the conclusion that maybe when Sprint released their newest OTA 3.16.651.3 that they put something in that blocks WiFi Tether because I have tried several different versions. I also tried the Viper 4G rom with the hacked Sprint hotspot and that hotspot didn't work either. Has anybody else had this issue, and if so, how did you fix it? Is there possibly some sort of software downgrade back to a previous software version around that I haven't found? Thanks in advance for any help!

software is what roms are. you could flash a ics rom and then upgrade to jb by flashing a jb rom. so you can always flash a previous software version by just flashing a rom for whatever software version you want.

if you go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/614073-list-utilities-roms-kernels.html (i know i need to update it at some point.....unless another mod or guide would like to do it;);)) and you go to the Shipped Roms/RUU's/Radios section you will see some of the stock but rooted roms listed there. you can try those and see.

now did you see granite response in the viper thread you posted earlier?

here it is if you have not:
Go into the settings on your WiFi Teather app instaled with Viper.

Settings / Change Device Profile : Generic ICS/JB(wlan0)

Settings / Enable MMS Clamping

Settings / Enable Routing Fix

You can also go under Settings / Change Channel Select a different frequency, sometimes this works.

Hopefully these will get you up and running. :)

No I hadn't seen it. Thanks. For the WiFi-driver reload, do I leave that checked, or un-check it? Thanks again

I keep getting the "Tethering started with errors" message when I click to turn tethering on, so nothing shows up to connect on my computer. That's kinda what makes me think Sprint put some sort of protection in their OTA to block tethering.

again OTA's are software and firmware baked together. with unlocked bootloaders you can flash different software versions(custom roms). most devs if they see this kind of thing will figure somehow to not include it. from what i know of the latest ota, i did not here anything about wifi or tethering.

i'm not sure exactly what or why you are having this issue. maybe try a different rom. try one of the stock rooted roms from previous ota's. maybe even try an aosp roms. i'm just flashed the carbon rom and i can tether it to my laptop with the built in hotspot with no issues.

I even wiped Viper & went back to stock with root & tried. Same thing. When I click to turn on tethering, instead of starting up like it should, it's like it automatically starts & shows "tethering started with errors. See log" and whenever I go to check the log to see the errors, the log is not available.

ok well if it makes you feel better, both pacman and carbon rom with the wifi tethering app, they cutoff wifi when i turn the app on. however the built in version works great. not really sure what the issue is with that.....weird.

i do not tether enough to help you troubleshoot what is happening to your phone. maybe try pacman or carbon and see if you can use the cooked in version.....just a thought.

Are they roms that can be installed with S-ON? Or is S-OFF required to run them?

oh yeah it will depend. if your firmware is from the latest ota (you have the latest radios) then correct you can't flash aosp roms yet. if you have the older radios then flash away.

My current Baseband 1.12.11.1210
PRI 2.97_003
PRL 25013
Android version 4.1.1
Software 3.16.651.3 710RD
SDK API level 4.63
Hardware version 0003

I'm sure this is probably all the current ones, making me unable to flash aosp roms requiring S-OFF.

yep you will need to get s-off in order to flash aosp roms:(

I have never been able to get Hotspot to work. I don't think it will work on ANY ROM. However, most Sense ROMs have TrevE Mod wifi tether. I use this everyday in my work van to keep a constant connection on my laptop. Download MeanBean from over at xda. That ROM has a built in kernel installer. Just fillow the prompts when installing.

Once it's up and running, go into you apps. It should be the last page of apps. It says wifi tether. Open it. Open the settings. Set it for "Auto". Restart and enjoy.

For reference, I think this is also baked in to Viper. My speeds are just as good as my previous air cards. I have connected my PS3 to this wifi and played Black Ops. ;)

Btw, s-on/s-off doesn't matter. Wifi will work. If you flash MeanBean, refer to post three of that thread. The wifi instruction are in that post.

I'm running Viper and the tether works just fine. I use the settings I posted earlier, and it works without a hitch. Even got my buddies iPhone to connect no problems. I don't understand why it isn working for you.

Ive never had the true "hotspot" thing working on any rom I've tried while on the lte. I dont know why it wouldn't work. The treve mod worked fine though. I didnt spend much time on Viper. It had too many tweaks and stuff for me. My curiosity would have gotten me in a jam for sure..... lol

Those settings I posted were for the WiFi Tether app loaded with Viper, not the hacked hotspot app.

Still wondering what is going on there?
