Root wifi tether not working on cm7- FIXED!! 5/21/11

thats the same file im using. from herehttp://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=supersonic

can you download wifi tether 3.o and see if it works? if you dont mind

i flashed it 2 or 3 times. i can email you wifi tether 3.o if you willing to try it. i was told the newer version wont work.

NOT ROOT!
Sorry, your kernel does not have the features for running this application.

Strange, I'm using tiamat 4.0.3. Guess I cannot run it. Sorry.

I'm going to try it anyways, ignoring the error message.

Hmm... nope. It won't broadcast an AP. And it's giving a boatload of errors.

weird i was running same kernel back when it worked. and i flashed it today and didnt get those errors u got

it should ask the first time wifi tether is ran. check you superuser restrictions. maybe you hit deny without realizing. ive done that.

Yeah, I just looked at it, nothing was in my SU app. I just flashed CM, so it would have been the first thing. Weird.

Nope. But I guess this could be an alternative.

You could USB tether your phone to your laptop. Then use internet sharing to broadcast the connection to your ipod.

I'm not sure about setting it up in windows (as far as USB tether is concerned, but I hear PDA net and things like that?), but if you get that working, create an Ad-hoc network (wireless) with windows and enable internet sharing. That should work. I once used it to broadcast dial-up to a computer without a modem.

not an option for me. its gotta tether without laptop. i can carry my laptop around with me at work. damn this sux

Hmmm.. I don't know, but it's not looking like it'll work. Maybe try a different AOSP rom?
Or maybe someone with more experience in this realm of knowledge will lend a hand...

Damn, that's frustrating. Maybe somehow it'll just start working again..? Hah, just before rapture tomorrow.

So this got it working?

1. Created android.tether folder on root of sdcard [case sensitive]
2. Placed the binary file inside android.tether folder
3. Uninstall current app of wireless tether
4. Rebooted phone [since it messes up your wifi when it doesn't work]
5. Install the vaelpak modified tether you gave me
6. Open and run app; no problems, started successfully
