i downloaded the most up to date but if i was you i would download 2.0.7 because those new ones are beta and im gonna redownload the 2.0.7

also to let you know PDA net work just fines on our phones but only thing that u need to do is connect it to the computer with usb

I was using my phone for tether over Thanksgiving (yay waiting in front of Best Buy for Black Friday deals!) and it does work with either 2.0.7 or 3.0.0 beta.

The only thing to note is that it will give some kind of error about not being able to set adhoc mode, but it still works regardless.

The only problem I had was setting WEP encryption. I just ended up using access control to keep other people with computers in neighboring tents from stealing my 4Gs... lol

New here and 1st droid. Not sure what I am doing but i did download PDAnet to laptop. Plugged into USB. It installed the driver but then automatically deleted itself? I would love to have wifi tethering but would take USB tethering. Is there a simple step by step process for this? Thanks in advance!

Ok, so i finally got it to connect using PDAnet, but it seems to keep kicking it on and off. Like the laptop is losing its USB connection?

The official Phandroid forums stance is there is no discussion about non-carrier approved tethering. I know it seems odd considering all the rooting and flashing going on here, but it's considered to be a form of stealing from the carrier since they have separate charges for their approved tethering, while rooting and flashing simply breaks your terms of agreement. It's looked upon the same lines as blackmarket apps.

sidenote: Personally, I'm of the opinion that once you pay for your data you should be able to do with it as you wish, but right now that's not the case.

^^Good posting.

Regardless of your personal opinions, a specific plan is needed for Wireless tethering and the viewpoint of the site owner is that unless you've a specific plan, discussion of tethering is prohibited. Please see the below from the Site Rules & Guidelines:

Tethering without a carrier required required plan is theft of services. You are stealing from the carrier. It goes beyond modifying your own personal device.

This is something we are not willing to help members do. Much like talk of how to work the system to return devices you've broke, etc. That too is theft.

Some say, "well, rooting is against the TOS, so....". Rooting, if against the TOS, could result in a suspended account. That is on you and your responsibility and we're willing to aide in letting you make that choice. It is your device, you should have that choice.

These issues aren't related to rooting in this sense and shouldn't be compared as such. This is a decision made by the owner of this privately run site, which we have the right to do and enforce.

Risking your device == ok.
Theft == not okay.

Thank you for understanding; however feel free to PM if you'd like further clarification.
