Root WiFi Tethering setting problem..

I use HTC EVO V 4G with MeanROM ICS, it's rooted. The first time I used Android Wifi-tether software , it didn't really work and told me some error message. So I searched and found a post, telling me how to change the settings of the software, so I changed the device-profile and some other settings. Then it worked.

Now somehow these settings are reset to default, and my Android Wifi Tether doesn't work again. I tried the latest version of 3.3-pre2, it says wireless tethering is turned on on my phone, but I can't find the signal on my computer. Tried different versions, including the one that worked before, and still no avail.

So do anyone remember the setting of the Android Wifi Tether software? Or can anyone help me find that post? I tried for several times and just can not find it.

Thank you.:)

i moved your thread to the evo v 4g root subforum.

i unfortunately do not have your phone, nor can i remember what i had it set to. i think i used pre2 as well in the past.

hopefully somebody here can help you out better.

But wifi tethering isn't necessarily about Root, some can work without rooting. So why do threads about this topic needs to be placed under "all things about root"?

the wifi tethering app does need to have root in order for it to work. you can't use it on an unrooted phones. it will work on unlocked phones provided you have su flashed. there are plenty of tethering apps on the market that does not need root. but the one you have does.

edit: plus the forum is called all things root. your phone is rooted and thus most threads should be in the root forum. troubleshooting is much different on a rooted phone then on a nonrooted phone.

It is likely that your password is "too secure" for that app to handle. I had the same problem, so I performed S-OFF and got a ROM that supported wifi tethering in the settings, without an external app being necessary.

I didn't set any password, I just use the access control. My phone is already S-OFF and I don't want to change to another ROM just because of this, since some earlier version of this software once worked under some specific settings. I will keep trying different versions.

try generic wlan01...also try trouble shooting without encryption/access..if you have trouble with encryption try changing the password and/or delete saved network on pc/device

This fixed my problem. I have been looking for a solution for two months. Thanks Alot!

Edit: I noticed that My tablet can see the AP but gets stuck on Auth... state.
