Help will not recognize sdcard/update.zip on sd card

What did i do wrong. With my reboot i have put the update on my computer and transferred it to the sd card and renamed it update.zip but on the reboot it is not being recognized when i apply the sd card: update.zip on my phone?
please help

If you typed update.zip then it becomes. update.zip.zip. Just type in "update".

Depending on your computer's settings for file extentions, filename update.zip may become update.zip.zip because it reapplies the .zip after the fact.

As a point of reference, on Windows the setting in question is at My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Hide extensions for known file types

If checked, it adds the extra .zip, if unchecked it does not. (I think I have that last part right)
