Root Will rooting help with lag?

The biggest issue I have with the Eris is the lag. Will rooting assist with the lag?

Well, yes--but mostly due to overclocking from 528MHz to 710MHz (widely considered to be a safe speed, although some phones cannot even safely tolerate being overclock to that speed).

You also gain a little snappiness due to some of the customizations made by the particular ROM's developer (removing a little bloatware, cache2cache tweaks, etc).

Its not going to turn your Eris into a Droid X or anything, but it should be noticeable (all things being equal, of course (i.e., your mileage may very)).

The Eris is actually an amazing little phone that does a tremendous job considering what hardware it runs on compared to even the original Droid.

Cheers!

Rooting ALONE won't do it, after rooting you'll need to install one of the many ROMs that are available. I realize that many folks would take that as a given, but I'd thought I'd toss it out there just for the sake of clarity.

The annoying lag is exactly why I rooted my phone, it made a huge difference for me.

Thanks for the info everyone. My contract is up on 1/1/11. But I want to wait to get a new device until the 4gs start rolling out. Until that time, to keep me from smashing my eris into the wall, I will likely root. As long as I dont brick it, all will be well.

Rather then start a new thread, I am hoping I can find some help in here (for now). So, basically, all I am looking for is a stable rom w/ no lag. Can somone suggest the easiest, most noob-efficient way of doing this and a rom that fits my needs as stated before? Thanks!

Do your due-dilligence and get familiar with lots of root info: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...ed-18-november-2010-10-47-am-central-u-s.html

Easiest root method: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...is-app-apk-no-pcs-no-scripts-needed-easy.html

Very good Sense-based ROM: [ROM][GPL][11/5/2010] xtrSENSE4.6.5 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense - xda-developers

Very good non Sense-based ROM: [ROM][GPL][11/5/2010] xtrROM4.6.5 [cache2cache,apps2sd,jit,lwp,oc] - xda-developers

Excellent source of root concepts and instruction regarding rooting (does the same thing that the 1-click method does): http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html
