Anyone else think Sprint/HTC will release Froyo on the Evo to help maintain sales momentum through July and August? I'm hoping they do, but wondered what everyone else is thinking. I know the update history is slow, but they both have a lot invested in maintaining Evo sales volume so it would make a lot of sense, especially with the Moto, Samsung, and Apple offerings coming out in the next few weeks.

The real update will be gingerbread anyway. Froyo seems like a stop gap to get phones ready for the UI switch over. I am coming to an EVO from a cliq on 1.5 an update for that phone (even to 1.6) would be huge as 1.5 has no access to google nav and other first party apps. I cant wait to get my EVO and I will enjoy finally having an OS that doesnt feel handicapped. When gingerbread comes then Ill be itching for an update.

Yes, but I don't expect GB to come any time in '10. I expect Froyo updates to take at least 12 months due to current fragmentation. GB will come, but I'm not expecting it until at least this time next year.

I know its one of those "he said" kinda things, but the guy at the Sprint store who sold me my phone (last week) said we get Froyo next month, AND that using your EVO as a hot spot will no longer require an addtitional $30 a month -- anyone else heard this?

If I had to guess it will come out at the end of the year for the Evo. It's not even out for the nexus one officially. July or august is a little too soon. Remember HTC has to work around it with sense. One thing i learned from having the hero is don't wait in HTC for updates. Root!!!!!

having had htc phones since the mogul...htc and sprint has always been slow in pushing out updates...and especially for gimped devices. there is a reason why winmo modding is such a huge thing.

I rooted my eve within a couple of days. after I got my bearing on an actual android device ( had xandroid running on my tp2 for fun)

now im running froyo courtesy of evolutionv8...and I revert back to calkulins v1.1 for some eclair and camera love!

read that they are sending froyo to the legend in a couple weeks, which bodes quite well for us! guess its easier to wrap sense around it

yea just like we could tether for free on 3G using the usb cable...

Phandroid just made a post that the Desire and Legend might be getting 2.2 in the next two weeks. Both of them are sense phones. Hopefully the Evo won't be too far behind. That or I hope it at least helps gets some ROMs cooked up.
