or will another soon to be released android be better? or grab the razr maxx and call it a day? i'm trying to decide what to get any opinions are welcome. Thanks

There's always something better coming... The current VZ top phones in no particular order are the MAXX, Resound, and GNex. The S3 and Motorola RAZR HD/Fighter are the next rumored phones for VZ, but no 100% confirmation or release date for either yet. Another rumored phone is an HTC similar in size to the Galaxy Note, but again just a rumor at this point.

I'm waiting until this unlimited data mess is cleared up and/or the S3 and Fighter are released before I make any decisions. Too much speculation and not enough fact on all fronts right now...

It will be close. A lot will depend on your preferences, and also what Verizon does to differentiate it from the standard GS3, which it most likely will. I like the sound of the HTC Note competitor myself, but that's just me.

Depends on personal preference, like everything when it comes to cell phones. I don't see anything beating the S III to me. The Fighter/ MAXX HD, as far as I know, is just the MAXX with stock ICS and a HD screen, which is not worth it to me. The rumored Note variation won't beat it either because I don't want a phone that big. So, my opinion, the S III might not be passed until the new Nexus.

You may very well be correct. But I just have to wait for some official specs regarding the Maxx HD/Fighter. It may just be an upgraded variant of the Razr Maxx but we'll have to wait and see.

Hopefully we'll get something soon, but it can't be soon enough for me.

In my humble opinion, the Galaxy S III will be the absolute best smart phone on this planet when it is released, until the Apple iPhone 5 comes out which will be a serious contender. Everything else is just another phone. :)

But the million dollar question is will it be the best "phone" on this planet... Samsung doesn't have a good track record with their smart phones working as phones on VZs network.

My Fascinate does not have any problem on the "phone" part. But then, it is the feature that I use the least. I have friends that won't answer the phone but will answer the text or tweet. ;)

People talk down about a RAZR Maxx with an HD screen, but based on what I've heard, that's not a bad deal. The RAZR Maxx itself is already a good phone. Give it ICS and HD, and it could last you for a while as a nice toy.

Not saying it's better than the S3, but it's not shabby either.

I'm also one that had good phone experience with samsung on verizon. Two dumb phones before android era and Fascinate were all solid as phone. Heard some bad things about Charge but never owned it. But when I saw my friend's Charge recently with latest GB, it was pretty solid on 4G connection indoor.

VZW Gnex seems like the worst samsung phone ever with signal issues on forums and getting bad press on it. But I still believe most of signal issue on VZW Gnex are due to the way ICS interprets signal strength, handles radio hand off and connection cut off. I know there are some quality control issues causing legit signal drop issues but other than that I think it's mostly signal display thing in ICS. GSM nexus has signal issues nowhere near VZW one, which means antenna/transmitter design is not bad.

So I'm fairly optimistic GS3 will be fine on signal reception. Early reviews of international version seems quite positive on it. Hopefully they don't drop ball on radio of CDMA versions.

If you're bored, do a search for Samsung Omnia and Saga and learn about some other bad Sammy radios. Had a Saga and unfortunately it lived up to its name. Dropped calls if I turned my head wrong sitting still in a strong signal area. Dropped calls when switching towers while driving. Etc, etc, etc... Phones I had before it and my DX that replaced it have had less dropped calls TOTAL than that POS would have on a good day, and I sit in the same office and drive the same roads...

As you said, the GSM version of the GNex doesn't have the reception issues of the CDMA version. I don't think it's merely software issues, since they've been having similar issues for years with different phones running different OS's. Never have heard issues with the GSM phones, but for some reason CDMA Sammys are hit and miss on VZs network. I got burned by one of the misses, and won't buy another until the radio is confirmed good. I was really hoping the GNex would be, but haven't heard enough good reviews on signal to convince me it's ok.

Samsung makes a lot of phones for people with different budget. They makes cheap feature phones as well. Omnia and Saga are not the top tier smart phones.

Galaxy Nexus, in my humble opinion, is merely a Proof of Concept to Samsung and Verizon. I can guarantee you that both Samsung and Verizon do not like this phone at all and probably will never make it/carry it again.

In this day and age, the phone feature is becoming less and less important. I have never seen any smart phone manufacturer brags about their great phone reception on their commercials, have you? It's because that is not what the consumers care about primarily.

Of course, different strokes for different folks. Everyone has different preference and it is fine. But if you pass on the Galaxy S III simply because of the potential issue on the phone feature, you might be passing on the best smart phone on the market. :)

Some of us actually still talk on our phones, so yeah I would pass on the best smartphone ever if it didn't work as a phone. Hopefully the S3 will have good reception and this is a moot point, but I'll still wait for others to test that before I buy it.

Same here. I don't have a home phone and would also pass on any smartphone that did not have good call quality.

.... But unlike every other carrier, Verizon has only announced that it will be released "in the coming weeks". Right? They haven't actually announced a date yet...

So? It's available for preorder, my guess is probably on the 21st like everyone else. Either way, it probably won't be too far off, or they will get a bunch of those preorders cancelled so they can jump to a different carrier for it.

You don't think it's slightly suspicious that Sprint and T-Mobile both announce June 21st on the same morning, and Verizon instead says "in the coming weeks"? I'm just saying there's reason to believe it'll come out after the 21st, and/or after the loss of unlimited data.
