Will the Xoom fail at Launch?

*raises hand*

can i aks a question? ( i meant to type aks. :) )

why do you guys all say the same things:

1. its too much
2. it will fail
3. there is something better on the horizon

rinse /repeat...

how many times do you all need to say the same thing? really? no one is really listening.. the xoom does not have flash nor will the sd slot be in play at launch. its 800 plus bux and LTE is not turned on. so far none of the negative points you all have expressed has waned my desire to grab this tablet. and you are are just repeating yourselves to each other.. why? whats to be gained from saying the same things? :(

this thread is a fail... no disrespect to anyone posting here. however you come into a PRO xoom forum to say its a fail? its not going to be. it will be a hit. its the first tab of its kind.. its paving the way for the other tabs. its high time the ipad had a run for its money, and the xoom will be ONE of the FIRST to knock the wind out of the ipads sails..

i love all you guys and gals.. lets just have a big hug and roast some marshmallows.. k? :)
I agree with this, particularly as it relates to the Xoom pricing. It almost seems as though only folks who have no intention on buying the Xoom are complaining about price. Sure when the price was first leaked I complained, but then I stopped and decided I still want it, and that it is worth it. if you don't think it' worth it, then move along.;)

complaining about the lack of initial Flash support doesn't bother me as much(probably because I will be doing plenty of it myself:D)

Seriously tho, $800 bucks is not too much for this tablet. If I'm not mistaken the HTC Thunderbolt(single Core) is ~$725 off contract...that is just a PHONE! So $800 for a 10.1in Honeycomb Tab(Dual Core) is actually reasonable IMO.

I agree - $800 for this tablet is not too much. People are being unrealistic if they think the 3G model should be $600 with no strings. For me, I'm hoping to hold out until WiFi only but am willing to do the $800 if it does not come soon.

However, the biggest wrinkle in my plans is the USB host issue. Not the flash or lack of Miscro SD at launch or whatever else. And maybe the USB host thing should not be that big a deal, but it feels like it to me. I have a series of 64gig and 32gig flash drives that I use for storing all my music/files and backups. I am not about to start dealing with a whole new way of handling that stuff. So, yeah, I'm bummed about the USB issue. Enough that if something like the Toshiba comes out soon enough and assuming it has it, I may jump ship. Not sure if I feel Toshiba will be as good or better than the Xoom though.

Yeah that sucks...but at least you'll be waiting for the wifi version anyway. That will give you time to see what other options come out, and time to think about it. :)

I really have no choice but to get the 3g version since I want to use Google Nav on the Xoom. For now I will be connecting to my Nexus via it's wifi hotspot but eventually my Nexus will crap out and without the ability to get data from verizon my days of using Google Nav on the Xoom would be gone. For me 3G data capability is a little bit of a future proof tool. Good luck on that USB issue man :)

I don't think the issue is whether $800 is a reasonable price for the technology. The issue is whether the typical consumer will pay more (or even the same price) for the xoom rather than buy a comparable ipad. The answer is "no" imo and that's why I don't think these units will sell like hotcakes. Rumors of an ipad2 annoucement next week won't help. A 4g ipad2 that runs flash would put a serious smack down on android tablets.

The $600 pricing for the 3g unit that became official today will help some. I just wonder how many ppl will sign up for a 2 year contract for use of a tablet. I plan to use an upgrade on one of my family plan lines to get the $600 3g pricing. I figure I can always sell a 3g xoom for at least $600, even several months from now.

I think the Xoom will be fine once the Wifi model comes out. And I think there's time to release both models before the Ipad 2 comes out. Will it outsell the Ipad or Ipad 2, I don't know but I don't think it matters to Android as a whole. The Xoom isn't the only soldier Android has. It's a collective effort between the other manufacturers that will drive Android to success.

Android is like the Borg. (yeah, I referenced Star Trek!)

Here is an interesting view and I was wondering too why nobody is trying to fill the 7" spot but rather go head on with the iPad. Next we'll see Aplle filling that spot too and then everybody is going to again run behind.

nearly all of these new Android tablets are trying to compete with the 10 inch Apple iPad and so far have not been able to come in at a low enough price. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch Android tablet has reportedly done quite well and I am a bit mystified why we are not seeing more tablets of this size.

The title is:
Any tablet over $500 just can't compete with the Apple iPad
