Idiot-Proof Guide to Rooting the HTC Evo

I love the part that doesn't require the ADB shell race, which I fail at every time. I wonder if UnRevoked can work the magic for some of us ADB shell impaired Incredible owners?

No, each phone has its own "hole" which allows rooting. This is the only one that has been found for the Incredible. Where are you from? Maybe someone near you would meet with a laptop or something and root yours in exchange for lunch or something.

I am in Southern Maryland and have followed the "local rooters" thread but so far none down my way. I have tried Linux, XP, Vista, different SD cards with various iterations of insertion/removal, as well as PRS/10 min video....... My son has win7 so I might give it a go.

I have had lots of luck, just all bad .

Try this:

Uninstall HTC Sync
Install PDA Net
Follow method #3 in the PRS guide. I used the 2GB SD card that came with the DInc.

I feel ya pal, I've tried 4 different sd cards, every windows OS available at this time, and all the different methods, for now I've give up, shame as i want screen shot ability and wireless tethering for when i'm out and about...
