Windows 10, Yay or Nay?

Yes, there is, but as I said, the add-on needs to see a specific folder for the Amazon app and while it is automagic when in Windows proper, it is not when trying to set it up from within Linux and the Amazon app is installed via wine.

No problem, I Love helping when I can and appreciate any props. But @Father Guido gave us that nugget of info stated in your quote. No hate involved, we're all learning. [emoji41]

Oh, sorry, I knew that. I tagged you because I wasn't sure if you would see it. But, yes I am slowly becoming master of my domain. Slowly but surely I'm making this ASUS my.......

I've heard mention of a dual boot from a second partition. That's probably above my pay grade, but I was surprised to find an empty data partition with 113 gb. I have all my personals, zips and media there now. Not sure if that's the best use. Is this safe from a recovery if need be? Or do I need a backup for my backup?o_O

But then Cortana does considerably better than Google around these parts. :thumbsupdroid:

These pictures were taken in the sequence of NE, N, NW, W, SW, and S.
there is just as much property to the east as what you see here, and that solid wall of trees to the south?
there is 3 acres south of that line of trees, we have about half of it in mown grass....

Looks an awful lot like my neck of the woods.

You definitely need a backup for your backup. And then some.

I too have an Asus.. Phenomenal machine!
If you have Win10.. It won't function without the D: partition. Funny really. I know it's scary but you need to disable a few things before you even THINK about dualbooting. Like accessing the UEFI and disabling Fastboot & cpl others so you can use a USB to boot from, instead of just DVD as those are becoming harder to find as an OS/Distro installation media. And Win10 also requires you to hold SELECT while hitting reboot from Win10. Disable that too so you can access UEFI from a cold boot. Besides, you'll wanna use USB to reinstall Win10 anyways. That's part 1. The scary part (#2) is: you have to wipe the whole flipping HDD with Gparted in the Linux installation USB/DVD and reformat the drive into 3 partitions as follows cuz with Linux/Win10 dualboot setup is backwards vs all previous Windows OS.. This is what I learned and how I personally set my 1TB HDD. By now you can access UEFI whenever (tap the ESC button rapidly as the screen comes on,

- UEFI (fat32)at least 35MB
but I gave 200MB
- Windows: I gave this only 200GB cuz I mostly use Linux anyways [make this a completely unformatted/erased Partition as windows will do its thing (& make it NTFS) by itself when you install and won't read the partition as usable if you don't do what I stated. Do NOT select this as a "do not use" partition, just make it plain unformatted.
- Linux (EXT4) I gave like 735+GB
-Swap (Linux Swap) My RAM is 16GB so I gave 16GB to swap.

* Install Linux first on the EXT4 partition, set up as desired..
* Install Win10 on unallocated section and it'll do it's thing.
* Reboot but it'll take you to Linux only, that's OK cuz you gotta update grub from terminal so it sees the new Windows partition/installation.
* You're done. Reboot and choose your OS ya wanna boot into as grub appears & gives you the choice. Enjoy all of both worlds! [emoji41

That's a lot to take in. I've got time though. The rush for me was to decide if I wanted to stay with Win10 or revert back before the deadline. I think I'm going to stick with 10. Its growing on me. I'll take my time with the dual boot. Thanks, copied and pasted.

No problem. It'll be virtually impossible to get a PC with decent specs and now Windows10, but as @Father Guido has pointed out..Win10 is usable with the correct Modz

No.. My PC came with Win10, I kept it cuz it was closer to the Win7 appearance and I wasn't gonna touch 8.×.. Plus no Win7 drivers available.. Lmfao

Edit: made small changes/additional info to my above post on dualbooting Win10

Gave up on trying to learn to like Win10 on a separate partition. Reformatted, keeping W7 as long as I can. Also keeping Mint on a flash... been a disappointing year. Now only goal is to avoid being dragged back into it.

Introducing Console OS with Android™. We’ve taken Android apart, and put it back together for your PC. Console OS is a distribution of Android designed to take everything that has made mobile awesome, and bring it back to your PC.

...anybody tried it? Now I've got an extra partition.

"Every thing in Console OS is built for a mainstream audience, and is designed for manufacturers – OEMs – to have a drop-in, native Android solution for their PCs."

Sounds a little strange. Mainstream? Manufacturers?

In case anyone is interested, this is the version you want to use in a Win 10 setup. A good start, but still needs a few tweaks. Definitely doable tho' ;)
