Windows 10, Yay or Nay?

I gave up on Wine a while back and just learned to dualboot, got all of both worlds! A conversion of a conversion is a pain and prone to issues. Nothing beats running in a native environment, Windows or Linux. [emoji41]

Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to get decent graphics from a virtual machine running Windows, either.

For the games I want to play, I may just have to use an older laptop or desktop dedicated to playing.

Hello, sorry had to take a break.
I originally wanted Wine to run the Media Creation Tool to burn a Windows 10 image on the laptop that I had "inadvertently" wiped it from. I thought this image needed to be created on the devices it was intended for. I had not recorded my product key and ASUS Support is a joke. I was worried that I would have to pay. I was wrong.
I burned the image with my HP and was granted Digital Entitlement because the ASUS had been upgraded. PHEW. I'm not used to things being that easy. Especially when it comes to Digital Media!
In the end Wine did nothing for me. Why is this practically useless tool included in many Distros software manager? I'll be ooking in to the Virtual Box environment. We'll see.

Update:
HP-Triple boot-Windows/Mint/and for aesthetics I threw ElementaryOS on the back 40 (100)-old farming term..anybody?
ASUS: Tirple Boot-Window 10/?/? :( Lubuntu and Remix are in there somewhere but Windows is saying "nothing to see here....move along"!

Thanks for all the replies. I feel bad for not being around.:)

I got so fed up with Wine, that I just gave up the whole idea of actually using any WinApp while using my Linux laptop.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, that I tried to install would work with Wine.
If you have enough horsepower in the laptop, you can install VirtualBox (or VMWare) and run a stripped down copy of Windows in a VM to use those things without rebooting. Alternatively, I've seen a few methods to use your REAL Win7 partition (if dual booting) in a VM, but it's a bit complex and haven't tried this myself (yet). One example here.

There is no precedent. Since this was settled, no legal judgement was rendered as far as liability. What I found most interesting is how the author resembles Will Wheaton. ;)

Woman wins $10,000 judgment against Microsoft for forced Windows 10 upgrade

The Seattle Times reports that Teri Goldstein, of Sausalito, California, sued Microsoft after a failed Windows 10 upgrade left her system performing poorly, prone to crashing, and reportedly unusable for multiple days. Given the general issues associated with performing in-place upgrades, even successful ones, it’s not surprising that some users would run into problems. Goldstein reached out to Microsoft customer service to attempt to resolve her issues, but filed suit against the company once it failed to resolve her problems. Her $10,000 figure reflected estimated lost compensation as well as the cost of a new system.

Okay, that contradicts @Father Guido 's article which stated Microsoft settled for $10k to mitigate further court costs in an extended trial. If that is the case, then there was no judgement against Microsoft. If your article is correct @jefboyardee , then there had to be a civil trial where a judge rendered a verdict, which would have definitely been appealed. Are there any court records to back this up or is it just another case of 'it's on the internet so it must be true'?

Also in article:

Microsoft had appealed the initial judgment but dropped that appeal last month. A spokesperson for the company told the Seattle Times that it denied any wrongdoing and had dropped the appeal to avoid the additional expense of further litigation.

Translation: Pay the Lady admitting no wrongdoing, claiming too expensive to appeal (yeah right) and hope others don't follow suit [pun intended]. M$ has deeper pockets than any law firm on the face of the earth. They are worried about something MUCH bigger.
