Help Windows Media Player issue

Hi guys,
I've got a galaxy nexus, I've had it for a year or so, uploaded plenty of music onto it before but right now Windows Media Player won't recognise it so I can't sync it. It just says 'connect a device'
I have tried Kies, but it doesn't connect to my phone.
The phone is still being recognised by the computer, I just want to sync a playlist onto it.

Any ideas? really appreciate any help!

make sure that windows media player is updated to the latest version. I've read that a lot of people have connection issues with their PCs... many of them are able to resolve it by updating windows media player to the latest version.

I checked and it is running up to date, any other ideas?

My first thought was that it might be connecting USB in the wrong mode (MTP vs storage mode). when you plug it in to the PC does it give you a message what mode its connecting in? I never plug mine in via USB so I can't remember how its handled in JB nowadays. i just recall there were two modes and one only supported photo transfer.

You say the PC recognizes the phone, are you able to open and explore folders on via the PC?
