Windows way of controlling and viewing your phone from PC

EDIT: YOU WILL NEED TO ROOT PHONE. So I started a thread ( http://androidforums.com/lg-esteem/462420-far-coolest-app-i-have-had.html ) and totally forgot about explaining that I used linux to control my phone through my laptop. I wasn't able to get it to work with my Windows7 OS. I decided to look into another method of getting this to work.
It's not as good as my linux system but it gets the job done. There are two apps that work pretty good. These two apps are:

- webkey
- airdroid

I realize that there are people on here that probably already know about this and have better methods, however this worked well for me on my windows OS. It also was pretty damn easy to set up.

Webkey method:

-Download off of market(obviously)
-Open the app and go to the settings tab
-Click start service
-Create a nickname at server
-Go to User's settings button
-Create an account name and password
-It will bring up an option of what settings you want(I would click all)
-Save user
-Go back and go to the control tab and it will show you to go to the webkey website and then follow those instructions

that should be it. You can literally control anything you can as if the phone were in your hands. If someone steals your phone then they are screwed. You can enable the app to start up on boot so you can access your phone as long as the phone is on.

I will post up the second method in just a bit. I hope some of you guys can find this useful. I tested all the features and it all works, but the only thing that I haven't figured out yet was how to get rid of the red colored screen.
 
Here is the second method which you cant see the screen however you can access any of the information on your phone that you need. It wont allow you to visually see your phone's screen however you can access all the information that is on your phone.

Download the app called airdroid
This one is pretty simple and is easy to set up.
You just need to set up an account and hit the start button and it will show you what website to visit. It looks like this:



That's it for that one. Not really a full out remote server like webkey but it still seems useful enough to mention. I hope someone finds this useful. Thanks :)

Don't know. Maybe you could elaborate. I started this thread as a back up plan just in case you were to get your phone stolen. ;) Plus I already use linux so I'm pretty much already living on the dangerous side :)

But then again how secure are most things???

Edit: BTW where in NW GA are you from. I live out in Roswell area

Well linux is and has always been more secure than windows lol, but basically you have your phone listen on certain ports etc so your PC can connect to it. So that allows some would be hacker to sniff and search for and possibly exploit. I'd be more concerned with the windows side getting exploited more than the nix and phone end, but that all depends on how well the app(s) are done.

Now the likelihood of anything goin bad is slim, but ya never know when ppl get bored and want a challenge lol

lmao.. wardialing led to wardriving.. wardriving led to WEP.. WEP led to aircrack.. WEP led to WPA.. WPA led to dictionary attacks.. that led to WPA2.. ok so the list always goes on :D if its on the airwaves it can be cracked by someone.. thats what makes technology great.. i guess the moral of the story is don't piss off someone smarter then you lol? all jokes aside..

dem.. i have an x64 win7 box right now.. is there encryption on the app to keep avg joe out? and if it stays in mem how much does it eat? don't have the time myself to test.. so yes i'm being lazy and just asking.. just got off work and its too much like reading :D yes/no and a number works.. I'm right there with you. I barely have the energy to reply to your post let alone going back in forth with the GOD lol. JK PG. Yes it does have encryption and it doesn't eat that much battery. Probably as much as your average task manager app. The first app that I listed is better and more secure IMO. I definitely recommend it if your afraid of getting your phone stolen or you just want to share files remotely.
Now I have to get back to bitching out MetroPCS to give me a new phone because my dumbass deleted the bluetooth app lol. But everyone likes a fresh start.

Geeze, No wonder your helping out all of us with designing a new rom lol. That place is BORING. My ex girlfriend went to college near there and my motorcycle ran out of gas and I thought I was going to get murdered lmao.
Yeah, I usually stay on linux and contemplate getting rid of Winblows all together but I need it for school. But I only would use this app if it were to get stolen.

Thanks for the offer bud. I replied to your post on the other thread that I made. Unfortunetly I exchange it in for a temporary phone will I wait for the new esteem to come in.

AirDroid has many remote control feature, like sending sms, export and import music, video, pic, ringtone and any other files. It's very very well designed - actually one of the best designed Android app so far.
 
now this is more like my filed when it comes to the pc. and I wouldn't recommend anyone using these type of apps at all. but do so of you're own risk
