Root Wiping Caches

Sorry to sound like a noob, but when I had my LG Ally, I used the Amon Ra recovery rather than Clockwork. In Amon Ra there was an option to wipe the cache without formating the data. Can I also do this with Clockwork? I know I can just wipe the davlik cache so I was wondering if there was an option to clear caches other than the davlik.

If you're flashing updates you should wipe Cache and Davlik Cache. Davlik is under advanced... cache is on root menu. I believe thats what you're asking about... doing that won't wipe your data, programs, etc. But should still be done.

If you're flashing a whole new OS and want to wipe data. I'd suggest you
at root menu
1.wipe Data
2.wipe Cache
then go into Advanced and
3.wipe Davlik
And ALSO go into Storage/Mounts and
4.wipe /System

wiping battery stats is up to you... don't do it if your phone doesn't have a full charge or better yet some bump charging if needed but plenty of other threads on that and it isn't necessary.

Just make sure it has a good charge.

do NOT wipe /sdcard... or you'll be so very angry

Thank you both.

I always wipe Data/Cache/Davlik when flashing a new rom.

When a rom is acting buggy, I like to wipe the cache's to see if that resolves my issues.

if its a new rom I really do suggest formatting /system too... seems to help sometimes

and yeah... never hurts to wipe both the caches...

Wiping system in mounts and storage is an unneeded step, IMO

I'm just heeding Th3ory here... seems to have helped when flashing his roms sometimes.

Clockwork doesn't list it's being wiped when you wipe data... and I've never taken the time to manually verify it.

Either way... can't hurt.

But you also don't know that it's helping. I would never recommend it to someone, but it's your phone and time

i have never wiped /system either.

im not saying hurts anything,or that it doesnt help, but ive never had prollems not doing it,and i change roms like i change my socks ;)
