Root Wired Tether for Root Users?

demlv

Newbie
Has anyone been able to get this to work on their Incredible?

DSL went down at work. I would have used Wireless Tether to get back online, but my desktop has no wireless adapter. I spent some time (unsuccessfully) trying to get "Wired Tether for Root Users" to work. Any pointers?

Before anyone tries to hijack this thread, please note that I am aware of both Easy Tether and PDA Net. I prefer not to install either, as both rely on app-specific programs running on the computer and both cost $$. I understand that Wired Tether for Root Users is completely free, and that when it works, it makes the phone appear to a Windows machine as a modem.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for that additional option, which I may end up trying.

My initial question remains, though.

Has anyone managed to get Wired Tether for Root Users to work properly on their HTC Incredible?

Sincere effort to avoid thread hijacking fails, yet again.......

Is it possible to get Wired Tether for Root Users working on the Incredible?

My results were the same as this guy:

Issue 27 - android-wired-tether - Wired-Tether 1.4 is not working on the Droid Incredible - Wired Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting

.APK installs fine and runs fine, gives no kernel warning, but the phone is recognized only as a conflicted USB device by my Windows machines.

I know I read old posts somewhere about how someone used a workaround developed for the EVO that also got an older version of the app working on the Incredible. From what I see, though, the workaround script was eventually incorporated into a newer version of the .APK (Ver. 1.4 at present).....but obviously, no joy for me.

I would sure love it if someone more capable than me could figure it out, so good luck.

I got it working on my Windows 7 Laptop, I had to install HTC sync to get the computer to install the correct drivers. I was then able to uninstall HTC sync (just the program) from the laptop and it still works.

Also, before attempting to install HTC sync, I went into the device manager, and uninstalled the drivers that attempted to automatically install when I originally started the wired tether.

This is where I downloaded HTC sync from ( it can be a pain to find). Ignore the part where it says it's for the desire, it works with all HTC phones.

That's great news!

I guess I'll be installing HTC sync. Did you set the phone to "charge only" or some other setting for the USB connection?

Thanks.
