Help Wireless connection when phone is sleeping......

Why does wireless not stay connected when the phone is sleeping?
Everytime I wake it up, I have to wait anything up to 1 minute for it to reconnect, during which time it is eating into my 3g allowance.
Often it is quicker to actually go into wireless settings and manually reconnect.
Is there any way I can force it to stay connected?
Also, will it remain connected if I am downloading while it is sleeping?

Go to Settings --> Wireless and Networks --> WiFi Settings, hit the menu button to bring up the context menu, go to advanced settings, set sleep policy to never. Done!

Ha ha.... the famous hidden menu... gets me every time..... and more so, the save option after any changes.
I think I did that change before but didn't realise I had to save my change.
