Root Wireless Tether on GB.

Has anyone tried it yet? I noticed then when i turn it on it pops up in the notification bar that the tethering is on. Anyone else noticed?
 
One thing I have noticed when I was renaming the bloat is that the 3G Mobile Hotspot that use to be named Mynet.apk is not there anymore, however I still have 3G Mobile Hotspot on my phone and I could not find the apk for it. I wonder if they made a change in this build to try and block this?

I noticed the same thing. I looked long and hard for it with no luck.
 
Has anyone tried using the built in tethering and mobile hotspot option in the Wireless settings menu? I was afraid to try, in case I accidentally activated a Verizon hotspot plan or something.

It will just prompt you to subscribe to the hotspot plan.
 
I believe you will be able to use it to tether cause currently they have a free promotion going on. (Just for the month)
 
Wireless Tether is working fine for me, I just tried it, had a friend try to connect and he connected without a problem.

I had an icon in my notification bar that wanted me to configure the tether or hotspot. I could not get it to work with a password enabled but once I disabled the password (in security) it worked fine.

I see, the first time I tried to configure the hotspot app I backed out of the menus because I didn't want to get charged. Maybe I should have just kept going, but I eventually was prompted. I guess I'll just wait for a work around.

The problem with this is that it is now going through Verizon, therefore when their promotion ends it won't work.
 
I did this and was able to for now get wireless tether going and was able to connect my tablet to it and open up the browser and go to a few sites. However when I later tried to open up my browser on the X I got a Verizon error. A reboot fixed this and I could browse again.
 
I couldn't get wireless tether to work at all. The verizon app kept taking over. I tried removing the password and everything but I couldn't find the wireless tether connection. my pc would find the verizon hotspot but couldn't connect anyway. I've since sbf'ed and returned to rubix. Tether is a must. If anyone else has some input on this I would appreciate it.
 
Yeah im having problems with getting the actual wireless tether app to work too. I get the exact same thing as airmaxx pictured...
Did everyone else that's having issues getting this working sbf today before flashing the rooted gb?
 
I got the same problems as everyone else has. I tried Wireless Tether and Barnacle. The VZW hotspot seems to take them over and offer me a tethering plan.

I was doing some research for my mother and her Fascinate a while back. One of the leaked builds over there had a VZW 'spy' app buried deep in the code to tell if you were tethering or not. Last I checked, they hadn't solved it yet. I will see if I can find anything that may help us.

Edit: There is an experimental build of Wireless Tether in the Google repository I am going to try that and see what happens.

Edit 2: No dice. Instant link to VZW DUN webpage.
 
The hotspot is working for me. I had to reset my phone because it was not broadcasting. Then, it showed up on my network list but it wouldn't connect properly. After a minute or so, it connected and here I type. I did use the TBH hotspot patch but I'm not sure if that is making a difference here. As an aside, I did notice that you need to go to att to activate! :D
 
I didn't want to use that patch just yet. I actually won't need the hotspot for about another week and a half. If I can stay away from the actual app, it would be better (and safer).

I should clarify that I used that a while back. The file description said that this it was a permanent device change. I didn't run the patch to disable so who knows?
 
has anyone tried to uninstall the stock hotspot app yet....or is it still an issue with some hidden programing....was gonna flash, but no hotspot = no way.
 
The hotspot app isn't in the /app folder. I looked around and didn't see anything. Still searching and data mining for info.

They either renamed the hotspot app something misleading or moved it somewhere else. I couldn't find it using root explorer.
 
i tested out the experimental wifi-tether 3.0 from the website, and it does connect.

the only problem is that every time you open browser it directs you to the verizon page and tries to make you subscribe to the wifi-hotspot.

i tried to look for the .apk for hotspot but i can't find it...
