Root Wireless Tether with AP and WPA in HTC Froyo

I download the APK from the first post and copied it to my sdcard. I then used Astro on my Dinc to try to install the file as I have done on numerous other APK files. But on this, I get to the App Manager and there are buttons to Uninstall and Launch. No way to install the file. If I try to Uninstall, it fails.

What am I doing wrong?

BTW - I'm on Adrynealyne's Tweacked Froyo...

Wow, I don't think this would've changed anything, but I got speeds of ~2.0-2.2mbs d/l. I ran the test 3x to be sure, nice!

Me too and I only get 1 bar in my house which is where I tested it. I'm very pleased with it.

Edit: Fixed. Working on adryn's vanilla 2.2 as is--

Don't start this app while you're connected to another AP-- it will make your phone very sad.

Not sure how it works with the orginal browser since I haven't used it since week 1 of the phone's release. I navigated straight to this thread using Dolphin HD, clicked on the link, it downloaded, I opened it and it launched and worked. Doesn't get any more simple than that.

Settings > Applications > Allow installation of non-Market applications

Any idea as to why this uninstalls itself when I reboot my phone? A reboot bumps it back down to v2.0.2 every time without fail...

Sorry, had to leave yesterday and couldn't get back.

If you are having trouble unistalling the version Adrynalyne included in his rom, try the following.

Boot into Clockwork Recovery
mount /system from the partition menu
on your computer start adb shell and execute the following:

rm /system/app/wireless_thether_2_0_2.apk

*Note this will erase it from your phone. You will be able to reinstall it from the marketplace, if desired.
exit adb shell
unmount /system in the Clockwork partition menu
reboot your phone

You should then be able to install the AP enabled version.

More info on this: You do not need to have the fw_bcm4329.bin file on sdcard any longer. It will use the ROM's bcm4329 module (verified on leaked Inc 2.2 #2 and Evo Port #3 from Adrynalyne)

I have the 2.2 #2 running and I had to add this file to get tethering to work for me.

That's odd, if you look at the attached pic in this post: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-incredible/141656-wireless-tether-ap-wpa-htc-froyo.html#post1310737. You can see that the bcm4329.ko module was loaded from fw_bcm4329_apsta.bin in the /etc/firmware folder. This was while running 2.2 #2.

Seems to work fine, but it wont let me use special chars in the password. only alpha-num. I tried all of the !@#$%^&*() chars and it errors out on them.

Pre7 fixes the SSID broadcast issue with Froyo on the Inc and Evo.

Start by going to Settings > Applications and check the box for "Allow installation of non-market applications".

Then navigate to this thread on your phone, click the link in the first post, and install the .apk once downloaded. If that doesn't work in an of itself, repost and somebody can post the bin file (if needed). Seems to be conflicting reports as to whether it's needed or not and may be ROM specific.
