Help Wireless Tether WPA security fails

Hi folks. I have an evo 4g that is rooted with unrevoked 3 and have gotten android wireless tether (2.0.5-pre14) up and running successfully. connection and data xfer between my mac and evo works perfectly. But when i activate WPA security and try a mix of various passphrases, it fails. i tried regular alpha & alphanumeric mixes with no luck. What am i doing wrong? With no WPA security, all is well, but i need to secure the connection. Thanks a bunch!
 
might as well post your resolution so that others might find it in the future. Or link to one of the other existing threads that go over this if that is where you found your answer
