Won't charge while turned on :/

Hi all,

I love my little Nexus 7 (Asus Google) , it does all sorts of cool things, sorts emails well, mixes work and play nicely...

But. It doesn't seem to charge at all when it is on and operating. So when it goes flat I have to power down before plugging in to charge :/

Is this just a setting somewhere to allow me to use it while charging? I can't find this anywhere..
Also it does seem a bit fussy which micro usb attachments I use to charge it even when switched off. One car charger works, and my samsung phone charger works. But some other cords from USB on PC, or power packs just don't seem to interest it. What could be different?? This has meant it's just not ready sometimes when I really need it.

It's a top little gadget and I really want to be able to use it more, and not be waiting for charges in between use.

Anyone else had this issue / solved it ???

Thanks, matt

I would stick to the official charger and cable. The Nexus requires more power than most phones etc.

It will charge whilst on if plugged into the mains, but not at all (or possibly very very slowly) if on usb, as this provides a much lower voltage.

First of all, welcome to AF, mattycat!

Sorry to hear of your troubles with your N7. I too have issues charging, but its more because my children have opened up female side of the connector by yanking the plug out inappropriately.

CarsnGadgets is correct, the N7 takes a 2A charger, while most phones chargers are 1A, and USB are even less. It may be that the other chargers aren't giving enough juice to trip the charging circuitry. Sticking with the OEM charger whenever possible is always the best thing to do.

As far as why it charges when off, but not when on... if this happens even with the OEM charger, I am stumped. Perhaps try calling ASUS support?

I have never had an issue charging mine on the usb and using it at the same time. How old are these devices? Crash I see you say yours is brand new have you done a full power charge on it?

It is about a month old. I have given it a full charge. I am still using the original charger plugged into AC. I have tried different outlets as well thinking that maybe for whatever reason the outlet might be the issue.
