World Capabilities

Hi,

I joined this forum just to report this finding: I have a sim card from Europe, but I am here in the USA. I put it in the Rezound, used the LTE toggle app, set it to WCDMA preferred (this should mean GSM or 3g) and got a signal. I was able to send a txt, recieve a txt, and recieve a phone call and hear my voice. So there is a radio in there no doubt about it.

Now the questions are:
1. is there a WCDMA radio for data or is it only GSM voice only?
2. It switched back to CDMA on its own a few times, so someone is going to need to figure out via some settings how to make this stay on GSM for folks who want to use it.

I travel overseas every 2 or 3 months so this will be a huge win for me. Anyone who can progress here or get more info I would be so very greatful.

Regards
Z

@ZachHass

Thank you for your feedback. It is interesting. I'm wondering how you were able to do that without putting any kind of unlock code in?

You know usually on a VZW world phone in order to put another carrier's sim in it you have to beg VZW for the unlock code.

I'm sure there will have to be some software mods to possibly trick the phone into permanently staying on GSM. What i'm wondering is how this would affect your bill.

I'm willing to travel around the world and try out different networks. All I need is for everyone to pitch in to pay for my air travel, hotels, car rental, a nice meal and hooker drink allowance, and my cell bill.

Surprise: HTC Rezound is a Global GSM/HSPA Ready Device

. Surprise surprise guys, looks like the phone we've been waiting for is already here. It turns out that HTC Rezound has been hiding its true colors from us. A forum member over at XDA has posted successful results with using his HTC Rezound in the UK by simply popping in his T-Mobile UK Sim Card without the need to unlock the device. We can now officially say it - Verizon's HTC Rezound is a global enabled world phone. Now off-course results may vary by country and service providers, but as it may be, it will work.

Aside from just replacing your Sim card, you will also need to perform the following simple setting change. From the dialer screen, you will need to punch in *#*#4636#*#*, which will prompt you to the programming menu screen. Scroll to phone information and then to "Global Mode", and you will have options for "WCDMA Only" and "GSM Only". The user has confirmed that his Rezound worked by selecting "WCDMA Only" mode, and it automatically picked up a signal. The user further reported no known issues for voice or data usage, and was able to receive texts, but was NOT able to send texts. I'm certain that developers have heard of this issue by now, and are working on a fix.

According to HTC, the HTC Rezound is a global enabled phone, and will work anywhere in the world by simply swapping out your SIM card and punching in the Sim Card unlock codes, which you can ONLY obtain from Verizon's Tech support department.

Hmm, I wonder why Verizon has 'forgotten' to mention such highly valuable specs in any of their advertisements for the phone. Probably because the FCC did not include the GSM bands on its approval :).

So does anyone else have a "Rezound globally enabled" story to share?

from the xda developers web site they said it will work GSM.

phone calls and data.

only problem is you can't send text, but you can receive them.

member across the pond bought one hoping it would work. it did. that is how all this info was found out.

Edit: I see all of the info I just posted was in the article. I had been following the thread on xda for awhile.
