World Capabilities

Not sure if it has been asked and can't find the exact answer I'm looking for. Will the Vigor have world capabilities or a GSM radio as well?

Definitely no gsm radio though i'm not very familiar with how that all works
 
i've heard yes and no. I'm leaning towards no because if it was a world phone that would be some massive tech. Think about it. CDMA phone with 4G LTE sim card in it then it would have to have a GSM sim for world travel. So that would be 3 different radios=battery killer

or they would have to somehow develop a combo 4G/GSM Card ...which i don't think is heard of.

just not really sure. But as a world traveler myself i too would like to know.

Im of two minds about it..

We know from the FCC docs that it will have Qualcomm mdm9600 to provide thr LTE connectivity, which supports the traditional GSM frequencies.. however, the FCC doc shows no certification for those frequencies..

However i dont know if the FCC requires cert for frequencies that are used overseas..
 
I don't think this will be a global phone. IIRC, the FCC docs show that there's no global radio, and the antenna diagram didn't include antennas for GSM/HSPA/UMTS, etc.

FWIW, I've read in multiple places that we wont't see global-capeble, LTE devices until the 28nm follow-up to the MDM9600 is released.

Thats not surprising.. its just too complicated with a multi chip radio situation..

It's too bad that the new SoCs got delayed beyond initial target dates. As amazing as this phone's specs are, it would be that much better with global connectivity.
 
If anyone can distinguish from the list of available networks below....This is a lot more than the Thunderbolt had listed in its settings. WCDMA = World CDMA? lol, err umm wait a minute..."GLOBAL MODE"...I just wonder if the Hardware is there...

Download an app called LTE Switch. It will allow you to switch it to several different options. Let us know if it works. I'd like to have a global phone just in case I ever have to hide.... er, I mean go on vacation overseas.;)
 
^be sure to hide in Tokyo, Moscow or Goa -- they have no extradition!! (i sure learned some silly stuff from streaming that Fast Five movie.) :D

actually no regrets at all still. I need more proof this works but especially if it works in the countries i often travel to. Also i have a global phone already if i really need a phone in those countries. I used to use it all of the time. However the country i go to the most no longer has a good data plan from VZW.


never the less. i will be keeping up with this story just to watch it unfold. I remember in the beginning the rumor mill was unclear if it was or wasn't a global phone.

Think about this.

1. To my knowledge if it in fact had a GSM radio in it then you would have seen it show up when it went through the FCC i assume.

2. I fix it hasn't done an official tear down of this device but i did find a few peeps on the interwebs that has done partial tear downs. No one has said anything about seeing a seperate gsm radio.

like i said i need more proof.

I'll agree with you here but at the same time I have to admit from all the testing I've seen people doing over at XDA(which I see as a highly respected site) it's looking more and more like this is legit. It also plays in to all the original rumors right before the ReZound first came out and the leaked pics that said it had global capabilities.
 
yeah it will be cool to find out. The thing is how will it hit your bill if your overseas and you do get it to work?
 
When I put in SIM card my carriers (Beeline Kazakhstan country) the Rezound was working. However it no correct, periodically phone switch to CDMA itself. What I need to do for working GSM constantly?

Did you switch it to GSM only or Global mode per the above instructions? You may need to root it in order to have the phone stay in the mode you desire. From what I recall, HTC doesn't support any global capabilities for this phone, but you can try calling them to see if they have a way to keep the phone from switching back to CDMA.
 
also still wondering why this hasn't been picked up by major blog sites yet as well. ....

i still need more proof lol.


i'm pretty sure that there will have to be some work arounds made for it to work properly if at all.
