Root Worst battery offender? Slow charging problem.

Papamalo

Android Enthusiast
Hi everyone.

I recently posted my apps, and am wondering, what is YOUR worst battery offender?
ON more than one occasion I plugged the phone into the charger for hours and it barely changed the power level on my 2X custom battery.
When I checked battery usage, an app, or part of an app titled, com.navbuilder.app.atlas appeared to have taken or used 61 percent of the used power.
Does anyone have this slow charging problem?
I mean I like the batter life when charged, I just wonder if I should just turn the hone completely off during charging.
Note: Rooted with CWM, plague kernel, overclocked at 1804.8 MHz
(is this the culprit?)

here's my current apps list.

Rom toolbox
Youtube
Voice recorder
Places
Voice search
Voice dialer
Maps
Camera
Facebook
Market
Navigation (google)ROM tool box
Lookout oble security
GPS tracker
Tricorder
CPU master free
Alarm clock extreme
US bank widget
Weatherbug
Wallpaper wizardrii
2X battery
Titanium backup
Astro file manager
application manager
calculator
calendar
latitude
swype
twitter
talk (can I remove this?)
Video player
Quickboot
My metro
Flash player settings
Busybox
Superuser
Es file explorer
Root explorer
GO keyboard
Boot animation installer
Dolphin browser (don't know how I feel about this browser)

Thanks!

I believe that's the google maps app, or navigator or something else tied to maps.

You can try Gemini app manager, and disable the auto run permissions. I did this, and not only does it help battery life, but boot speed. Disabling a lot of apps run on boot permissions means there's less the phone has to do when turning on

EDIT: I don't know if you need pro, but ROM toolbox can disable the auto runs as well

Can you tell me a little about the process of Disabling apps run on boot permissions? I guess it's kind of like moving things from the startup folder on your computer?
Thanks again.

Maps is the biggest offender for me.

Using ROM toolbox seems a lot faster for disabling run on boot, but can't disable any other auto runs that I can tell. Gemini can disable all, but can take a fair amount of time. But since maps is so persistent, well use this. Give me a min to dl

Yes, navbuilder.apk.atlasbook is going to be Maps/Navigation. You may have turned on GPS Location and opened maps and now it is tracking movement real-time or possibly ran the Navigation and when u arrived at your destination did not turn it off thus the Navigation still thinking u have not arrived or passed your destination? I remember when I had the admire and had the Navigator running in the car and charging from DC Outlet the battery still went down LoL.

Open Gemini, you'll see a list of running apps. Most likely, maps will already be there, but if not back out and run it.
Click on the icon for the app you want to change, select more options, then auto run. It will ask for root permissions.
Now you should see a list if conditions that will cause the app to run. If you'd like, disable them all or only some, after your done you shouldn't have to worry about maps.

Now as a warning, disabling the wrong auto runs does haves the potential to break that app. The market, for example, its very touchy. Disable a certain auto run and it won't install anything.
You can always re enable any permissions you deny, but keep it in mind.

I think that's it! GPS tracking was on, and wi-fi. I should always turn those off when I am not using them, right? total noob question I know.
epayne123: same thing happened to me!http://androidforums.com/members/epayne123.html

Also: does the gps tracking function kick in automatically when I use google maps?
and lastly: since I am overclocking with the plague kernel is that an offender too?

thanks you guys. always helpful.

I don't use maps or anything to do with it, but I personally leave GPS on, as it will allow me to find my phone if its lost/stolen. Its a personal choice, my ascend was stolen once by a kid in the neighborhood, and I got a location and sent a loud siren to the phone to find it.

LOL That's funny...better than the kid that ran out of a Metro store I frequent with a demo plastic Esteem thinking he had a free phone:eek:

Have to be in Expert Mode when first opening Gemini. The best option to avoid disabling auto-run on system critical apps is to use the "Filter Packages" button in the bottom right hand corner once in expert mode.

I usually use the "Installed by User" and "Is Running" most of all.

Long press on app shown running-Config "Autorun"-tap far left button on bottom of phone(WHAT IS THAT BUTTON CALLED-SETTINGS?)
Then hit Disable Current App.

When you filter check out the "of System" most of these running should be left alone.

Just remember every time you update an app or download a new one you will have to go in and do this for that app.

Have just gotten used to doing it this way..not familier with ROM Toolbox:rolleyes:

On this phone that would be background data, right?

Start-Wireless and network settings-Mobile network settings-data enabled(uncheck).

Or airplane mode would block everything.

Call me in a few we can set it up for ya if ya want :D
