Would like to root hero

jmkbaum

Lurker
I've been thinking of rooting my Sprint Hero because of its slow/laggy performance and I keep running out of room. After searching the web, forums and such I believe the process to be: root phone, install rom manager, install recovery, backup current ROM, install new ROM and Google apps. I've downloaded z4root.1.3.0.apk and UniversalAndroot_1.6.1.apk to my PC. Will either of these work for my phone? My firmware is 2.1-update 1 and software # is 2.32.651.2 Thanks.

Thanks! I do have EStrongs File Explorer on my phone and plan to use z4root. One other question, I just want to be sure that my understanding is correct in that the Nandroid backup could be used to restore the phone back to it's original state in the future if needed.

You are welcome. Yes, you are right and restoring that Nandroid will put you back to your stock ROM as it was before you flashed the new ROM.

I think of it as an image of your current setup. Like when you do an image of your computer so you can restore it in the event of a virus or malware.

This is absolutely correct, it will put you back at a stock state. It will not however un-root your phone. If you absolutely positively have to take your phone in to have it serviced you *should* unroot prior. Some, not all, stores frown on rooted phones.

Rooting your Hero is probably the best decision you could make with that device. :D I absolutely loved my Hero after I rooted it. Prior, I loathed and detested it!

And now you're running R2? Not bad:D

Thanks for your encouragement. I've also been following the Godfather13 post. The Calkulin's EViO 2 v1.8 seems to be a good solution for my phone. Thanks for that as well.

That is providing you have an Evo, LOL :D JK
