Would this work? building computer

if wow is a main concern than that rig will be fine. I built my grandmother a PC recently, spent maybe 400$ got her a core i3, gtx 210 4g of ddr2, and shes able to run wow at medium to high settings on a 21inch monitor max resolution.

another thought is you could go with a cheap am3 dual core and upgrade next year the 32nm amd's should hit sooner than later.

gaming computers are a lot trickier to build than a regular pc, thers just so many different things to consider. do you want to be somewhat future proof? if so youll want to grab a mobo with multiple sli slots, ddr3 ram, usb 3.0 etc...

ohhhh i see, yea i would like it to be some what future proof.

Is onboard video chipset a big deal?

don't fully follow one chart :/ read through the site that was just an example. as far as mobo's ASUS or Gigabyte. the problem with the sli boards right now for amd they don't have the sats 6gb and usb 3. so it's pretty much up to you if you're gonna do the single card solution, sli or xfire.

if i were gonna go dual core i would go cheap planning to upgrade soon or spend the extra 40 bucks and get a quad.

2 PCIe 2.0 x16 Slots (blue@ x16 mode, black@ x4 mode)

the x4 is too slow for higher end cards if you're thinking of running xfire you'll see a performance hit.

Newegg.com - ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
so this one would be xfire for using 2 cards correct? but its sata 3gb/s not 6

if the x4 would be to slow then the x2 would also show a performance hit aswell correct? maybe i should not be trying to do xfire and maybe just go for 1 really good card?

Thank you for dealing with my noobness aswell trying to learn =p

Probably the most important thing to order: Arctic Silver Thermal Compound

Instructions for application: Here

And I also suggest Gigabyte for a Mobo. Never had a problem with them, great bios setup.

Also, go sign up for NewEgg's newsletter, it should be on the front page somewhere. They give you killer deals all the time.

yeah if you're gonna do xfire or sli you need two pcie lanes that are x16 or 1 x16 and 1x 8 even works. the only two card solution i see even being worth it atm is 2x 1gb 460gtx(~$360 for both cards) past that it's all high end stuff imo.

but i mean when you get to the higher end stuff it's gotten to the point where its only worth investing for the crazy resolutions. i built my tower back in feb/mar and can play any game at a good resolution with high settings and it's a mid range budget tower...

yea i dont think i want to do the xfire
really just want to be able to play the game with mid to high settings and not have low fps an lag out.

Right now im thinking of
Newegg.com - ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition Callisto 3.3GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Desktop Processor HDZ560WFGMBOX

Do you think with a good single graphics card that i would have much of a problem running mid to high?

yeah those would be a good choice. again i would pay the extra for the quad core. and i run a 5770 with no issues and the 460gtx is a superior card...so no you won't have any issues.

but if you're fine with the dual core that chip gives you the possibility*no guarantee* to unlock the 3rd or 4th core

I have seen a lot of people suggest the 5770

Newegg.com - XFX HD-583X-ZAFV Radeon HD 5830 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity

was looking into this 5830, trying to figure how it compares an see which one would be better for my needs.

Would the quad core make a big difference while gaming i was reading that most games only make use for 2 cores, would a quad core still be worth it and more powerful?

I really would just go for the quad core or even the 6 core, but I wouldn't recommend going for dual core. Games like starcraft 2 will benefit from the quad core. Also take a look at gpu benchmarks and such PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - High End Video Cards and decide what it is you want. I built a computer with the amd 6850 and it's a good value, you could aslo go for the 6870 or from nvidia the 460 or 470.

I think your right about the cores maybe i should just go with the x4 3.5gh, also saw a x6 2.8gh

im just wondering about this now, like a x4 3.5gh would be better then a x6 28gh? or no?

Depends on what you're doing, if the program is only single threaded then most likely the quad core will get better performance. But if the program is multi threaded then you'll get better performance with the 6 cores. The thing though is you can also multi task better with the 6 cores.

Yea wow is a multithreaded game but i think the other cores would just idle and not be made use of.

so maybe the x4 would better suit for gaming

I built a gaming rig like 5 years ago and got all my parts from newegg. Never had a problem with them. only part that failed was my WDS raptor HD. took a dump on my like so many other people.

sounds like you are in good hands. the one thing this guy that helped me in picking parts was make sure you dont buy an AMD based mother board and an intel processor. lol

when you start building make sure to dissipate the static electricity before touching the processor and so on.

dont think if it was touch on but use some artic silver when putting your heat sink on your processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100005&cm_re=artic_silver-_-35-100-005-_-Product

Yea im going to buy from newegg for sure they seem great and best prices. any one ever use there bill me later or newegg preferred account?
