Would you buy a PS3 right now?

Woot has a 160 gb PS3 on sale for $240. I'm debating it. The last console I owned and actively gamed on was probably a PS2 and that was a couple of years before the PS3 even got released. It was easily 7-8 years ago. Haven't done any gaming at all since then.

My real concern is the security of Sony's network though. I'm reluctant to buy a game system that's connected to a network that gets hacked on a weekly basis (quite literally it seems). But I would like to play LA Noire. Heard good things about it. Thoughts?

Sony's hacking went on for a solid amount of time. The network is back up now. It was never on a weekly basis, though. It was just out for a few weeks in a row as Sony was trying to solve things. I think it's totally safe to go online. Even during the outage I was never worried about my account, even though I had a credit card stored on it.

LA Noire seems like a pretty good game. I'm debating on getting it myself. Go look up some reviews online and decide.

I just got a second one for my bedroom. It is a 160gb slim got it for $80 at a pawn shop. In my living room I have a "fat" model. its a good system.

It's not just Sony that has been targeted, right now there's an epidemic of hacking going on. Everyday you can read a couple new articles of some major company's sites getting hacked. And it's not like XBox hasn't been hacked before.

I wouldn't let that fear sway my decision on getting a console. I'd create an email address that you could use only for the account you make and not put any personal information. When you choose to purchase digital content, be it DLC, games, virtual items in Home, just buy a PSN card first instead of entering credit card info.

The PS3 is a great console with great offerings. You have internet access, music and movie apps, 3D capability, and of course, Blu-Ray.

No man... Sony getting hacked and anyways cmon you are getting it nw 0.o PS4 will probably come out xD I would use the money to upgrade ur pc (if ur interested) or maybe phone or something ;)

PC's get hacked to so shouldn't he stay away from that as well? I haven't heard anything about Sony getting hacked every week.

The PS3 is a very good system and the blu ray is a nice bonus. I've considered getting rid of my 360 for quite some time and just sticking with the PS3. I've played a bit of LA Noire, not sure if I would consider it a great game by any means, but it is entertaining.

ya ok but my point is that he shouldn't get it because its gna get old and why would he when he can get doublw the graphics with PC's ( games on pc are cheaper btw )

with the hacking of the PSN May Playstion sales went up. Get the 160G go for it. the network is not hacked week that is BS. It was hacked and brought down. I think sony has fixed the bugs and it should not happen again. It cost Sony alot of money to fix it. Anyway I will from now on buy PSN gift cards.

LA Noire i have read and heard mix reviews on it. It is really a detective game but i have seen the graphics and they are pretty dam good.

Sony has stated that they had every intention on keeping the PS3 relevant for 10 years. I don't know if that means it'll be 10 years before they put out a new system (and highly doubt that's the case), but as it's been almost 4 years, you got at least another 6.

For that price i'm tempted to get a second one.
I'm operating a 360, a ps3, a wii, and a DYI kick *ss PC...
Why settle for just one? lol

Disclaimer: There will be no talk about cracked/pirated/hacked games....

My original droid screen cracked/ Ships are getting pirated everyday/Hacky sack is a fungame.

So we cant talk about these things?:p

I will get PS3 Once i find a job. I found out from my cousin that on some of ps3 that were made with fans can go in reverse to clean out the dust out of the system. To see if your ps3 can do that then do the following to check. To Get the fan to go into reverse mode you have to hold down the power button on when you turn ps3 on.

Gamers are spoilt for choice at the moment because PS3 is great and the Xbox 360 is great. As for hackers, no system is safe, just recently EVE Online was hacked so it is not Sony exclusive. Pirates stand up the non-capitalistic views but really they are hurting only one sort of people............gamers.

I compare these latest "hackers" to rioters. Trashing services and exploiting weak systems, for example Sony, who stored all their client's info, passwords, and credit card numbers in plain text. OK, that's terrible on the part of Sony's network admins but, then so is stealing the info and posting it on torrent sites for all to see. I lock all my doors and forget to lock a window, does that mean my property is fair game? No.

LulzSec and Anons are using script kiddie tactics to get attention. Frankly, they remind me of spoiled little children with too much time on their hands. Places like Ars Technica, etc. should stop giving these idiots the time of day, it just adds fuel to the "hackers" ego.

Couldn't agree more, and well said.

It is and I should know better, it IS my actually computer name (workgroup) and thats a piece of info i'd rather not advertise......

removing references to it now:p

(would still like to remember where i posted that, you damn young kids with your good memories, lol)

Hmm... I may get a PS3 again mainly for the bluray. If I can't find a good deal for new one, I may just get a used one from Ebay.

yea the ps3 is a pretty good system i have both a ps3 250gb slim and xbox 360 250gb slim, love them both, but sometimes i like playstation better because they are free online, and they are not as strict as xbox live, because all the time people get banned and suspended from xbox live, but I have heard of no one getting suspended or banned from ps3 network and plus even if they did its no big deal because its free to make as many accounts as you want, But I will admit it really pissed me off when their network was down for 28 days straight, but playstations are a good consol and much better then the old xbox 360 standard editions and pro's, and its always nice to have a blu ray player handy if your into that stuff
