Would you trade Eris for Moto Droid?

i thought r00t was going to be difficult, but it actually was fairly easy, the IRC channel helped alot too they are great
 
This is just what I did and it may not work for you, but since I'm assuming you have two years max left on your contract, just add a new line for 10 bucks and get a new phone at the discounted price. It will still come out to be equivalent or cheaper than the 285 for a droid. And you could get the incredible.
 
I fix my co workers Moto Droid daily. She is an older lady and seems to find a way to mess it up nearly every day. For how much I have messed with it I have never had a desire to trade my Eris for it and I could if I wanted. The lady absolutely loves my Eris. The Droid is just so clunky and unrefined. It's like. To me the Moto droid is like a Dodge Viper while the Eris is like a European luxury car. The Moto is super powerful,, but the Eris is more refined in every way.

Its an application to help guide you through rooting your Eris.

Unfortunately, it is still down now :(. Here's the last post from Eclips3 on the xda thread re. the status:

"none right now. been busy with life, and havent had much time to dive into the code. any updates will be posted here and on our twitter. until then, the app is down for repairs."

I think the headphone jack on the Droid is the same as the Eris (and the iPhone) 3.5 mm. I have constant frustration with the kids' LG phones because the headphone jacks are those stupid 2.5 mm, and they're always looking for adapters.

The Droid's USB port isn't proprietary. Its microUSB. Its a newer standard than miniUSB like the Eris uses. Its not incredibly common yet though. My friend's LG enV3 uses microUSB and same with my old Nokia E63.
 
The only reason I would consider going to the Droid is because of the keyboard. That's really the only thing I wish this phone had, is a physical keyboard.

But I like the size/feel of the Eris, which is why I picked that instead of the Droid. Lol. I think a better question for me would be would I trade for the Ally? That would be a tough question for me to answer.
 
MicroUSB (what the Droid, current blackberries and other phones) is becoming the "world standard" as several countries have criticized the cell phone market for not standardizing on charging ports and causing proliferation of junk cords.

One thing I didn't like about Moto was they used standard USB ports for several years but they were "special". I couldn't use my BB charger to charge a Moto phone. I'd get "unsupported charger"

On the other hand, now that my wife upgraded from a Moto phone to a Samsung I can use her hold charger on my Eris. Samsung still doesn't seem to have gotten with the program yet and uses the somewhat standard-across-samsung port.

The Blackberry Flip that I had previously used a MicroUSB just like the Droid does.

I'd consider the Droid because I would like the faster CPU and the hardware keyboard. I would miss my Sense widgets though.
 
The only reason I would never switch up is because of the trackball. I would suggest trying out the Droid first to make sure the trackball isn't a killer. I know for me, it is. It makes editing text messages harder and requires more finger movement for things that could be done with the push of a ball. With that being said, I am sure that not having a trackball isn't an absolute killer, but just a preferred feature.

lol, I keep forgetting that I even have a trackball on my Eris! :D

I'm sure that there are countless times when I could have used it to more accurately and easily position the cursor for text entry/editing...but I don't use it...:o
 
Coming from a former owner of both, if your stuck with the phone for over a year get the Droid. It's faster lol

I love the Eris form and the Droid functionality which Is what I now have found in my evo. The sex appeal of an HTC device and the speed of a much faster processor.

Just think about which one truly is the best function for you. Most Eris owners I've seen wen I originally had the Eris preferred their devices so most would say keep it.

The trackball will also take you from screen-to-screen a bit quicker, if need be, than swiping the screen with your finger (or nose or whatever you use :D).

As a side note, I noticed that in Launcher Pro the trackball would scroll you through screen icons rather nicely, negating the need to touch the screen at all, again, if need be.

But you change phones as often as I change my underware. :P

I liked my Eris, don't think I would have traded for a Droid....

is this really true(not saying your lying Frisco :)
i ask this because either way you have to swipe the ball left to right or right to left as u do the screen so does the ball really make a difference if your doing the same functionality?

I don't have an eris anymore to do a comparison just curious :)

I suppose its true. One simple scroll over can be equivalent of hitting the D-pad a couple times in rapidly. But the one thing that I don't like about the trackball, is if you want very precise movement, its incredibly not precise (you could accidentally go left or right trying to go down). And its next to useless for emulators, since you obviously can't hold a certain direction.
 
On the Eris, if you have data on all screens, a quick roll of the trackball will get you to the last screen on either side very quickly.

I found out the hard way, thinking at first it was too sensitive for such a tiny trackball, but then got used to it and that's how I now move from the home screen to any screen other than the two directly adjacent (left and right) to the home screen.
 
I would have to spend a few hours poor days to see if I would Lee it better. Same OS,. Faster processor, and no dialer lag?... definitely
 
i would trade in my eris in a second. ive been dissapointed with the phone. constant problems. now im getting a refurbished one since when i make phone calls i sometimes just get flat out silence. i was hoping the verizon guy would say you want to pay the difference for a Droid? i would have said HELL YES!!! Android is evolving too fast and the eris cant handle it. the droid may not be a sexy phone but it work well. the way i look at it i would rather have a honda civic that worked pefectly than a bmw that you cant take on the freeway.
 
Wow guys, thank you so much for all the opinions! I really appreciate it, even though I am no closer to a decision than I was when I posted it. It really comes down to this simple statement I think:

Its power in an ugly form factor, or under-powered jaw-dropping beauty.

I just cant decide what to do... =\
