WOW, great apps...

Sorry a bit off topic, but does anyone else have this problem with handcent? If I receive a new text, and read it via the notification bar at the top, handcent still shows a new unread message on my dock icon. Not the biggest deal but kind of annying.

Other than that, I love it and would recommend it.

Also, LP+ is a must.

Can anyone tell me about Pure Messenger? Is it worth it?

For example, does it do a better job for an SMS widget compared to the SMS widget that LPP has?

I like it way better.... Try it, and if you don't like it, uninstall within the 1st 24 hours and you get a refund! (another android plus)

Hard menu key > Preferences > Dock Settings > un-check "unread SMS count".

Hope that's it.

Thanks, seems like that will fix it for now. Would be nice if the program would recognize messages as read/unread and update the dock as needed. I like getting the notifications on the dock.

Perhaps I will. Any pros or cons you can add? Are you a LPP user by chance?

Thank you.

Battery Left - Tells you % battery remaining AND estimated TIME your phone will be dead (e.g., 9:59 am) - Also puts in status bar

WatchDog Lite - Keeps eye on CPU usage and you can use it as a task killer, as needed. Recommended by a Lifehacker article that concluded Task Killers are at best not needed or at worst bad for your Android device.

Mini Info - Shows Battery Percent, remaining storage in phone and in SD (in GB) -- I also use it to quickly turn GPS on -- and as double check on Battery Left :)

Smart Taskbar - Allows you to get to ALL your apps (in organized fashion) from ANY of the 7 pages of your homescreen. This seems to help save battery too, as you don't have active widgets all over the place using data

GMAIL Notifier - I have multiple gmail accounts, and I use the Gmail app instead of Email app to get my gmail "pushed" [The Email app is fetch, if you didn't know]. Gmail notifier lets me customize status bar icons for EACH gmail account and assign different alerts to each.

-SD Mount Widget - mounts your sd card without a reboot if you download media/pix directly on the phone.

-SMS Reader - Reads aloud your SMS and incoming Caller ID

-Setting Profiles Full - set custom profiles based on your own rules

-Image Hunter - my friends don't like their pix taken, so I download icons to symbolize them in my address book

-Fast Reboot - reboots your UNrooted phone without physically powering off your phone. So instead of waiting 2 minutes for a power up, it only takes a few seconds.

Many more, but these are my "can't live withouts"...

^ thanks for the fast reboot suggestion. I was coming back to the thread to ask for something like this. Question though, does a full hard boot make any difference from this? I used quick pull on my Blackberry and it would fully boot it.

I have 'Fast Boot', and since I'm rooted I also have 'Hot Boot'... it's basically the same thing, only even more thorough.

Ekyle... I'm not sure when you first downloaded 'Mint', but it works instantaneously on my phone. I can literally buy gas at Shell, and when I hang up the pump it shows up on my Mint. I know this because I have it set up to txt me if my balance drops below $200 dollars, and just after hanging up the pump a few weeks ago my phone went off telling me I was below my $200 dollar limit... nice! My favorite thing about Mint though is your ability to link all of your financial sources (all credit cards, debit cards, checking accounts, savings accounts, etc...) together all in one app. Instead of having to open multiple apps to find out balances on different accounts.

Mint and I almost never knew eachother though. When I first downloaded it I was putting my accounts into it and for some reason my Chase account didn't want to take. Everytime I put my password in it would tell me it did not recognize it. That frusterated me so I back paged out of the app. A few days later I was going to go in and uninstall it but I opened it up real quick first and there was my Chase account up and running. So I kept it. Sooo glad I did.

Most of my favorite apps though are Root User only apps. I just got Webkey (links directly to your PC so you can type on your phone from your computer keyboard... it pulls up the sceen on your phone right there on you monitor and shows you realtime what's going on.... it's crazy!), LCD Density Changer (adjusts the resolution of your screen, like taking your LCD TV from 720p to 1080p, KICK ASS!!!) and Search2Play (turns your camera button into a play/pause button for your MP3 player. Which was huge for me because I like to listen to my headphones while riding my motorcycle, but once I've tucked my phone down inside my inner pocket and zipped up my coat and then someone would try to talk to me, I would have to unzip my jacket, wake my phone up, and hit the pause button on the screen before I could hear them... so much nicer to just push the camera button even from the outside of my jacket to pause the music).

But all three of those apps require root access. So, for all those not rooted yet, you are missing out on some amazing apps. Those are just the tip of the iceburg, I probably have 15 - 20 root user apps downloaded so far and I'm just getting started.

If you like 'Fast Reboot' and you're rooted, get 'Hot Reboot', you will really dig that one. 'Fast Reboot' does a good job of starting apps over, freeing up some memory in the process, but 'Hot Reboot' is for all intents and purposes the exact same thing as a power cycle. I just performed one and it took 22 seconds from the time I hit the 'reboot' button until my phone was 100% back up and running again. And it even left my 'Wireless Tether' (also a root only app) running so I didn't have to break my internet connection!

Not too shabby.

I reactivated my account and it is running much better. My problem wasn't with the app so much as the service itself. much better now, thanks for reminding me of it :D

A full reboot reboots everything and on my Captivate, takes about 2 minutes because it's stock.

Fast Reboot (description from Market)
Simulates a reboot by closing/restarting all core and user processes and thus frees up memory. Your phone should be much snappier after using Fast Reboot.

The way I use Fast Reboot is when some apps FCs on me and I want to get it working again, I do the Fast Reboot and see if that resolves my problem.

If not, THEN I go into the full reboot.

I practically rebooted my phone daily because of various reasons. Since I installed Fast Feboot, I've only had to do a full reboot maybe twice.

Just got Flash TV and works great on my X. Need to have the WiFi on, but streams live television to your device...

ESPN2, CNN, CBS (east coast), USA Network, lots of Fox (Business, News, etc) stations and more...

The app would often prompt to be patient for loading/buffering, but it seemed very quick (again on wifi) for me, and I rarely waited but a few seconds before a station began playing...

It's still pretty new, but looks promising...

Nice find! Just trying it out while at work and I am on 3G and watching ESPN2 and it is streaming very good. Watched the CBS live feed as well and it was a little more choppy.

The only minor thing (since I am watching live TV on my X) is that the feed screen is bigger than the X screen so you cut off parts of it. But for an Alpha version of this it is really nice.

Some channels are not as mobile ready yet and that does happen on some, the maker says that's one of the issues they would like to work on for future releases.

Couple things I noticed.

- My CBS feed was fine, but I was wifi vs your 3g, and actually a few seconds ahead of my DirecTV feed.

- Even on the channels where the video was a bit larger than my screen, I was able to position the player so that very little was trimmed off the sides.

- The resolution on many of the channels is outstanding! There is the Fox Simpsons channel where you can watch recent episodes of The Simpsons and the quality, I thought, was fantastic. But even ESPN2, USA Network and others all look great.

- I did notice on some channels that it was very difficult (or impossible in some cases) to get the screen to scroll up or down once the video player begun.

- On some channels it was impossible to pause or stop the channel after you begun the player.

But overall and with the app still a work in progress, can see it being a very handy one even in its present state.

I won't bother running through all of the previously mentioned apps, but I will second Mint! That is a kick ass app, I can't believe they just give that one away.

So what is this Mint! and where is it. I don't see it on the market or Appbrain

Just try it everything on the market is refundable if you uninstall it within 24 hours you don't get billed.

Two more to add:

S3x Positions - I forgot to list this before as *I* can live without this, but the BF cannot ;)

Blik Calendar - Visual calendar. I can see what the appt is for just by looking at the icon that I chose for the appt. No reading necessary, if you select the right icon to represent the appt.
