Wow! So Many Unhappy Bionic Owners

I got it 2 weeks ago, and it's a business account. I just spoke with Verizon and i have 30day to return it.

Definitely not happy about the shutter lag. I was taking some pics last night and I really saw the delay.

Also the dropping of the 3g\4g is getting old.

Plus with the release of the nexus and razor is definitely sad especially when this phone was just released.

So I think I'll look into the Nexus or the Razor, I still have 2 weeks to think about it.

Thoughts?

This is why it is a good idea to only install Apps from the Market. They keep track of what you got from them. If you download an App directly from a developer you will have to keep track of it yourself.

How sure are we that the Razr and Nexus will not have the same 4G/3G network drop issues?

The shutter issue is apparently a problem with the stock App. There are other Apps available that could be used instead. You could try "Vignette Demo" from the App Store and see if you like it better.

The 3G/4G problem certainly seems like a network problem and not a phone problem. It is highly probable taht any 4G LTE phone will experience the outage. If this problem is impacting you then you probably should hold off using any 4G LTE phone for a while.

On face value one of announced phones might work for you. On the other hand ... they might not. What is their "track record"?

The stock camera app is very poor but will probably be improved somewhat in an update. There are various very nice camera apps on the market that take advantage of the Bionic's camera much better. I use Camera Zoom FX.

The 3G/4G connectivity issues are a problem with the software on the phone that Motorola said they are working on and will fix in an update.

The Razr is going to be a much thinner Bionic with a much nicer chassis without a removable/extendable battery as the trade off. You can expect it to have the same kind of battery life the stock Bionic has with no way to increase it. It is unlikely that the software powering the two will be very different in the long run(at launch the Razr will have something slightly newer than what we have, but the Bionic's software update is coming in November so maybe not), they are basically the same phone.

Not very sure, I know that. I don't know how diff the Nexus will be from the SGS2, but that has data issues as well (and they're not on Verizon).

Yeah, I'm with you guys on the camera, but I'm rooted and using the camera from the DX. Now my camera takes as good a picture as I could have hoped for (which is good, cause that stock one was very lackluster).

Only thing I want to add is that I wouldn't expect the RAZR (or the Prime, or the Vigor) to have near the battery life the Bionic does. Much of it has to do with the screen. While it's not the most beautiful display out there, it outperforms every phone out there in sunlight, and also helps reduce the impact the display has on battery life. Being as the display is almost always the biggest drain, it's very significant.

Just returned my Bionic back to Verizon. I had one more day before my 14 days were up. The reason I returned it? Cause I got on this forum last night and read about the Razr that is coming out in Nov. I was reading all about the Razr and agree with almost everybody that chimed in on the subject about how moto just released the Bionic and now a month later put out another Droid phone. And has a little bit more stuff then the Bionic. So I will just wait till Nov to get the Razr.

Just my 2 cents

Man, I wish I would have waited to buy this thing (Bionic). I bought mine on launch day and am contemplating putting it up on ebay, but know im gonna take a huge hit because no one's gonna want it.

I hate the fact that they launched it, and then a month later announce a new device that is better. They should have just scrapped it and launched the Razr.

I tried to sell mine, no one wanted it. I traded it for a BB.

I hope you are happy with it.

Me?

I am 100% happy with my Bionic and would never change for the RAZR.

The AMOLED screen and 4G combo will drain battery FAST, AMOLED drains a lot more than the Bionic. And the fact you cannot pull the battery, which kills it for Rooting purposes, and if it has a similar BSOD that the Bionic has you will not be able to do a battery pull to fix it... So, exchange it every time it happens?

.200 MHz will mean nothing in real world tests, the phone is already liquid smooth.

Also, no extended battery, the battery life should be worse than the normal Bionic on the standard battery due to the battery hog of a screen.

Overall I am very happy with my phone.

Don't get me wrong I like the bionic, but a little upset that I had to pay 299 for a phone that will drop down in price come nov, and I can pay 299 for the Razr and get a little bit of a better phone.
Then battery does not bother me, most of the time my phone is plug in anyways. And I only rooted one phone in my life time and will not root another one.
But thanks for all your information.

What is your source for this information? Just a guess?

You can always wait until January or February to see if the Razr's price is dropped from $299, too. Phones always drop from launch price if you wait long enough.

Everything drops in price...

It is the nature of the game.

I remember the OG Droid, when it was a month or two old it dropped by around $50...

But the Bionic will not drop in price until the Razr is out for about a month maybe two. So why spend 299 for the Bionic when I can get the razr for the same price and a new/better phone.

You keep saying better better. I hope for your sake you are right.

If you want to mimimize your cost and at the same time minimize the number of technology problems you have ... the approach is simple ... never buy a phone that has not been on the market for 6 months.

Yes I am serious.

If you do anything else you are going to be unhappy. The price is going to drop over time. It will stablize around 6 months after release. By that time there will have been a couple of software bug fixes released and the number of bugs will be down radically.

So ... rule of thumb ... nothing under 6 months.

True with the drop in price thing(or lack thereof)...the Samsung Charge was still its launch day price for a WHILE after it was out.

I heard a couple people around here and on some other forums and websites that got a little frustrated by this also. They try and jam you for your money. Especially Verizon. I swear they make their products just so they can break so you have to buy more of them...

It seems that the same old story rings true. Always thinking the next phone will be better and no issues. Wake up people, been going through the same old BS since the D1. Complainers, i just dont get it.

My battery life isn't that good on my Bionic. IMO, no 4G phone is going to have awesome battery life anytime soon.

However, Moto did say the Razr was going to have 12 hour talk time...And with all they were showing off yesterday with those battery saving tools built in to the phone..You never know what to expect. We just might all get surprised..

I bought the Bionic because on paper, it had everything that I wanted.

I bought it last week KNOWING that samsung and motorola was going to bring out something better but I didn't care.

I loved this phone, it was almost a perfect phone. I said almost because the camera sucked really bad but I was going to just put up with it. I did experience the dropped 3g/4g connections but that wasn't that big of a deal.

The reason that I am returning the phone is because my phone is a brick now. The phone locked up on me earlier today and now it won't boot right. It get locks up on the LTE screen. I pulled out the battery and tried to reset it many times but still the same problem.

After doing some research on it, this seems to be a known problem and I don't want to take a chance with it hopping Motorola will fix it on the next update. I did this with my last phone, the samsung captivate. The phone randomly resets, gps never work, yahoo mail don't work and other minor issues. Samsung promised to fix these issues but never did.

It is sad because I really liked this phone. I am just going to go back to ATT since I still have my unlimited data plan from them. Going to just wait for the Samsung Nexus next month.

I know most of you won't care but it helps to vent.
