Help Wrong Area Code

Is there a way to set the area code that your phone uses? Phone uses area code 617. I'm not sure how it is in other places but we only have one area code in Hawaii so we don't really ever use the area codes when calling someone.

There is a way to change your area code but I believe that a number change will need to be done too to match the area code . Boost Customer Service will be able to answer this question and not only explain but perhaps help you do it . :D

my area code is 808 and the number i have uses the area code 808 but my phone uses 617 when i dial out. and i tried calling but they told me that i just have to include the area code when i dial out. one of the reasons i asked question in here is that my phone didn't do this til recently meaning that it might have been changed from a mod i used. thanks for replying though.

I would say call boost and see if it is something on their end, and if not then let the brainstorming begin!

I am not sure what your asking but it would seem if your phone number is area code 808 you only need to dial 7 numbers. for example

my area code is 904 if I am calling my house(fictitious number) and its 10 digit number is 904-555-6698 to place that call from my phone I could use the full 10 digits, or I could just dial 555-6698

but on the other hand if your phone number is not (as in my example) 904 and you try calling my house that has 904 area you have to use the full 10 digits.

if you downloaded something like prefixer it will add the prefix or ext or what ever and if you did that you could uninstall it. as our company (boost) does not need it.

617 Is a Boston Area code, Funny you ended up with that..

I called boost today again and got the same reply. Was told that I have to dial the 10 digit number. I'm not sure I understood him correctly but it sounds like the phone determines what area code to use by your location....boston hawaii.....yeah thats pretty close lol......oh well, i can live with it but if anyone figures out a way post it here. Thanks guys.

That actually does not make any sense.
Your phone determines NOTHING your phone number determines it. That and the tower your phone connects too.

For example if you are in the 904 area code and your phone # is a 904 you dial a 7 digit # if its a local call. However if your in the 617 area(visiting boston you know) and you want to call a local number you most likely need to dial the 10 digit #
Few years ago I think it was different, your phone connected to the local tower and if you called a 7 digit # it would automatically use the towers area code. that could cause problems though because if you had your moms 7 digit # in your phone book. say she lived 3 houses down from you lol. it would dial the (boston) 617-555-6698 instead of the 904-555-6698 and you would be calling a stranger. lol

So that and probably other reasons they made it so if your out of your local area code range you would have to use the full 10 digit #

hate, you should check if your MDN and your MIN, One of them is your phone # are both your local area code.

On the about phone tab under status it will say my phone number, then MSID if they both use your local area code you should not need the 10 digits.

just checked. both start with 808. and what u said about calling the wrong number is exactly why i asked about changing it to my local area code. ikept calling people and getting messages that the number was out of service.lol was like..why is everyones phone off

So... I found an answer to this problem, but because I'm a new user, I'm not allowed to post it (the forum things java naming convections are links...) So I'll double post and put the solution next.

Came here from Google and thought I'd share the result I found.

Recently I installed an app called "Autostarts" which lets you disable apps that launch automatically (on phone power up, when you make calls, etc). I disabled a bunch of stuff, screwed things up, then undid what I broke. Unfortunately, it seems SOME things are supposed to be disabled.

The "New Outgoing Call" intent should NOT call Dialer. You need to disable Dialer from "New Outgoing Call" if you accidentally enabled it. If you look at that entry, it's for com.android.phone.ProcessOutgoingCallTest. This is not your normal dialer, but a test procedure written by Google engineers and left in android. One of the things it does is force 617 area code. So don't enable it!
