WTF why does this always drop signal!!

What kind of signal? General reception, 3g, or wifi? Cuz I get occasional 3G drops when I'm driving. Not sure what's causing it plus I am living in a pretty big Tmobile area. I'm not exactly living in the middle of nowhere. I get like great reception outdoors I think, with like -60 to -70 dBm and 20+ asu. Not exactly sure what asu is or what's a good # for it, but I can be streaming some internet radio while driving then it would drop the 3g.

You are correct and its not a signal as in the bars its the connectivity. No matter if I have full wifi and bars there will be times the whole thing goes white which means a connectivity problem. So what's the malfunction. I mean it already only has edge on att and now it has connection issues?

Maybe you're in a weak coverage area for ATT? Idk. I'm on Tmo and my data coverage is awesome.
 
I'm assuming the problem shows up when switching between Wi-Fi/3G/EDGE? I know mine has a slight lull when I switch off of 3G and onto my Wifi, but that's not unusual. Maybe AT&T's EDGE towers near you are on different technologies and incapable of switching seamlessly between each other.

That's exactly what is happening it's quite annoying. I want the inspire but I might have to switch before
 
I thought that going white meant that it wasn't connected to Google's servers, but you still had normal signal/service. I've seen mine go white and maintained a normal connection.
 
Mine does the same thing but it's not when I am switching from wifi to 3g. It will do it when I have been on wifi and randomly drops the signal and it takes a while to reconnect. Whenever it turns gray it means I'm not connected at all.

My fiancé has a nexus s as well and this only happens to her once in a while. But it happens to me several times daily.

Yea its starting to be a pain. My email says no data have to refresh
 
I'm glad I'm not the only one this is happening to.

Happens to me randomly when I'm out and about, however it happens all the time at home when I wake the phone up. On wake up it seems to have a 3G data connection, but then tries to switch to wifi. That's when the indicators turn grey and I have no data connection. This can last anything from 30 seconds to a minute and a half. The indicators show strong wifi and mobile signal, and I know my wifi is working well (other devices connect without lag), so what's the problem????? :mad:

I'm hoping this is a software thing that will be fixed soon, as it pretty much makes the phone useless when I need it: I think; I'll just quickly check mail/facebook/whatever on my phone. Wake up the phone, access the application and.... oh crap, no data connection.

Kinda missing my iPhone now.

I'm having a good signal experience personally. No dropped calls, always strong.

In fact, in areas where other T-Mobile people are showing SOS calls only, no signal, I'm sitting on almost full service. This phone must have a beast of an antenna.

I live out in the middle of nowhere, and I NEVER loose connectivity! I'm also on AT&T obviously locked on the EDGE network as well, and can say it once again, it's the most reliable connection I seem to have with AT&T. Several other devices I have used seem to always be in and out of 3G service, dropping calls ect................. But I'm pretty happy with the solid connection I'm receiving using the Nexus S.

I'm in the UK and definitely get a better signal on my Nexus S than I did on my old iphone 3g. Wifi, although it doesn't show as many bars on the display as the iphone is better too. I can pick my wifi up about 150ft from the router at the bottom of the garden which I couldn't do on the iphone 3g - lost the signal after around 100ft.
