Root www.unrevoked.com Went Live

Sorry, this is my first Android device, but what would be the easiest way to get this on my phone?

I realize I am a total newb, but I am willing to learn.

I just want to realize the full potential of the EVO without all Sprint bloatware crap.

Go to the website on your phone.

or if your phone is hooked up to the computer, make sure it is hooked up in 'disk drive' mode, then download the .apk and store it in a folder on your SD card. You need a file manager to install the .apk with this method. ASTRO file manager is the one i use.

Freeza How do you uninstall apps though? Busybox? wtf is that? =]

i remember uninstalling apps on my g/f's hero but that was through adb.

Whats should be done here?

Great question lol. I'm new to the Android scene so I have no idea

I would still need the Android SDK installed to make any changes, wouldn't I? I've tried installing it, but I can't get the right drives installed for some reason, it installed the HTC Sync drivers, but apparently it doesn't work quite as the Android SDK usb drivers?

I tried to manually find the SDK drivers after installing the SDK and Java packs but I had no luck, guh.

Anyway, thanks Freeza, I almost feel bad about Goku killing you. Don't worry, I know it feels =/.

J/k

ADB is the same as the Android SDK, or rather, it may be a part of it right? I'm glad I'm not the only newbie here, but hey, as long as we're eager and trying to learn right?

=D

HEY, i did mop the floor with him for like 30 episodes. whatever though lol.

ADB driver for me was a pain in the ass to install too since i had already had a newer build of HTC Sync, but once I opened the installer for HTC Sync that came with the 8gb card, it installed.

How'd you get it to install then? Or rather, where did you get the ADB driver too? Should you uninstall the HTC Sync driver or can they somehow work together?

Freeza Why don't you try this with your EVO in debug connected to pc in CMD prompt

busybox touch /data/local/blank; mount -o bind /data/local/blank /system/app/Sprint_NFL.apk

after you get into SU =] see what happens lol

Don't get ride of busybox. You are able to type commands into the phone as if you were typing them into an adb bridge. Busybox will let you preform some actions right from your phone.

The toolbox that is provided on the Android environment is pretty limited. I wanted something more useful and familiar. Busybox to the rescue!

So i am thinking you put busybox in your android-sdk-windows/tools folder in data and call it up in the command prompt

I'd give it a go, but what is busybox and where do I get it? Does it come with the android sdk? :-p

It appears as though a "busybox" file is inside of a folder in the evo-recovery zip that i downloaded from toast's rooting thread on xda. I wonder if that would work!

Oh wow!! I haven't applied the Root yet, but once i do! i can call on Busybox directly from the phone?! wtf! neat!

Freeza give it a try :D

Search around xda-developers. Look for adb in the evo section. It was a bitch to figure out and if I could remember how I did it i would give you some instructions.

The basic premise is that you have to edit the inf file to include the evo. This is on win 7 anyway. You also have to make sure you can get to whatever folder adb.exe is in from a command prompt.

I tried the apk root, it works apparently.. but not sure if it works 100%? On my Hero, while rooted, I was able to use Root Explorer and delete the Sprint BLoatware and such, and having no such luck deleting the bloatware after rooting with the apk, on my EVO. It says it was deleted, but nothing changes. I try to remount the r.o and my phone reboots. Hmm..

The latest version is still not "sticking" for me. Although there is no way to tell what version it is. Just downloaded it at 2:55PM EDST.

uninstall and delete the apk on your phone and computer depending on how you ae downloading it. re download the apk from unrevoked.com put on your sd card and install using astro file manager now if the directions state that you have to reinstall after reboot then you have the first version if it doesnt state that in the install then you have the second version the sticky version. my thought is that you downloaded the first version then uninstalled it but didnt delete it from sd card therfore when you redownloaded it it added a (2) to it and you reinstalled the first version.
Just thought.
