Root www.unrevoked.com Went Live

Same here with EVO. Using Root Exploer I made system/app /rw and deleted some Sprint apk's, clicked write /ro and phone rebooted. Apps I deleted are still there.

Is ADB the only way to do it permanently right now?

Ok guys, I've been reading a lot of threads for the last few hours about rooting the EVO. From what I gather, using the unrevoked method, you will not be able to delete the bloatware sprint put on the EVO. To do so you'd need to be able to boot into a custom rom that was designed without them.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

P.S. I downloaded Root Explorer and had the same luck as you guys with the apps reappearing after reboot. Which sent me digging through more threads until I found the above out.

Ok so maybe I'm missing something but mine doesn't tell me that I have to reinstall after reboot but after rebooting I try and run WiFi tether and it says I need Root access to run this program. I then run revoked again and it works fine.

Doesn't seem like it's sticking to me.

If it helps I'm running it on the EVO and I had never previously tried running it until about 5 minutes ago and I just went to the site unrevoked.com/m/ from the phone.

for the hero there was a step by step to do this.

i want to make sure i know what to expect before i root my evo.
as of this moment, i'm thinking that i just go to the website from my evo and it will root itself?

how do you remove unrevoked? i dont have a evo yet (tomorrow seems so far away). I would like to fully root my evo via toast but i think i will play around with unrevoked first and want to make sure it is fully removable. Thanks in advance...

if the root doesn't stick on reboot, can i root my EVO , install the needed uninstaller to delete the stock apps from sprint , reboot my phone and be back to normal without the apps that i didn't want. Im nervous about rooting but if it isn't that hard, i really really really wanna get rid of sprint navigation and peep and crap and crap and crap!

What other benefits should i utilized from a rooted phone - any cons?

i used this mobile site from my phone and seemed to work just fine. I didn't have to reapply after reboot. . . I'm trying to delete stock apps now though with no success. I have downloaded "Root Explorer" and followed the instructions per another blog to delete the unwanted apps from Sprint and HTC in the system/app folder. But after rebooting my phone those apps are still there and still active... Any Help ?

i think revoked method doesnt allow access to /system. they are working on that right now. if you want more control/more "complete" root, toast's method is the only way.

disclaimer: i don't have an evo yet nor have I had any other android phone but have done some researching since tomorrow is when i'll have one in my hands!

Just tossing in my .02 cents...

I'm using the v1.1, the one that root is suppose to stick on after reboot and it's not.

Just saying...

Yeah , I can confirm the latest revoked doesn't stick like its supposed to. Still , for the ease , you can't beat it.

Awesome stuff.

Worked like a charm! Damn, can't believe how easy they've made it.

FYI, root is definitely sticky.

Edit: On the Evo, in case you're wondering...

Remember to uninstall then reinstall
v1.1 Root sticks on reboot
v1.0 root aquired

I'm sorry if this is super simple and I am missing the point but, I have the Hero with 2.1 (non OTA updated) Rooted with unrevoked v1.0. What is the process if I want to get teh update then use unrevoked v1.1 to reroot the phone?

Thanks for any help.

uninstall, reboot, install 1.1, reboot

should stick after reboot. if it doesn't start again.

I rooted with the old zip method via computer. Not really sure how to uninstall the original version. I see the file in Astro but delete seems to be the only option which I know will not uninstall. I though I figured it out so I downloaded the OTA update then v1.1 It said rooted but in cmd when I try adb shell $ su I get permission denied.

There's only one version of unrevoked. I know because I downloaded it from them the minute it was available (I was on the edge of my seat for some 24 hours then) and I just downloaded it again - same file. *shrug*

Well that would explain why my newest d/l didn't stick like the first.

Also my free month of mobile hotspot........i can't use now. I get
error 67 now. Go figure.

What happens if you uninstall SuperUser + Unrevoked and reboot once or twice? Does it fix your hotspot?

Although, AFAIK there was no free month of mobile hot spot, but maybe I'm wrong. I heard QIK video chat was supposed to be free for a month, but the Sprint rep told me it will now be free for forever for EVO owners.

Android noob with a new EVO here...I'm trying to understand this root thing...esp with the unrevoked version...

will I be able to flash Froyo after I root this way?

I'm not sure if I have the "first" OTA downloaded yet...tried to upgrade the firmware..and it says that there is no update available for my device.

amw - you need the toastcfh hack as explained on xda forums. It will allow you to run a custom rom, unrevoked is just an app which gets you superuser perms.

Running v1.1, never had the v1.0 and root is NOT sticking on my EVO. I have to redo it after each reboot.

I'm seeing a lot of people with v1.1 having this same issue in other threads and on other forums.

I too have to rerun unrevoked after a reboot. maybe unrevoked.com/m doesn't have the newest version listed yet.
