Help XE restarts

hi Pouya

how is this different to the complete restart? :)

edit - i asked my provider about supplying me with a new sim, and they asked about the restart problems and suggested doing a hard/factory reset?

Well when I'm using an app and want to go back to home screen the home screen takes afew seconds to load, but the phone is on and working. And it says sense loading.

Hi, I have the same issue,

I have HTC Sensation XE, bought it from UK, using it in Turkey. I never use simcard in it yet. It is not a sim problem. I am using only wifi and trying some apps. waiting and hoping the ICS update will solve it.

PS: Sure it is not simcard issue. Never tried to put a simcard. totally clean!

which issue do u have? Sense/homepage reloads or compete restart of the device?

I had the first restart in 3 weeks tonight. I'm guessing not a good sign? But if its a restart every 3 weeks I would be fine with it.

Have you tried a hard reset Pouya? I contacted HTC and they said it's a software fault and told me to return the phone to factory settings. I did this on Sunday and no restarts since. It's only been four days but I'm hopeful. They said if it keeps happening after doing this to return it to the store or send it in for repair.

Yeah I had a factory setting reset right before I changed the simcard. I hope its q software prob. And i hope it gets fixed with the new Android. But what I don't want is to reset to factpry setttings every few weeks.

is there any way this can be network related, etc.?

i've not had any restart issues for a couple of weeks, but in the last 24 hours it's probably restarted/blacked out about 6 times

Ill just paste my reply from another dudes similar question, apologies if I repeat things already said above, i cant be arsed to read this entire post:

I've had the phone a couple of months now and it very rarely reboots/restarts and I have never had to battery pull. I'm assuming these problems are due to defective apps or defective ROMs from certain carriers, I come to this conclusion as mine is unbranded.

from what I've read online, it's just "one of those things". i've read threads about people returning 2 or 3 handsets and still having the same problem. whether it's a dodgy batch, i don't know - but with the range of people having problems (ie. across the world), it would indicate some kind of hardware/software problem?

I think I'll wait until ICS is released shortly and see if that makes a difference...

i hope its just this case (dodgy batch). ive got mine a week ago and havent have any restarts (yet). the first thing i did though is change the launcher. im using go...

Ach, worried now. I got my device on Tuesday. Living in hope that if it starts doing anything it's within the first 14 days so I can take back and change for something else. Which, would be a shame, its a cracking device. I actually dumped my iphone for it.

Dont sweat it mate had mine a while now and its never restarted on its own once, there will be a lot more good handsets out there than dodgy ones, im sure your will be just fine, its the scottish model just like mine:D

Ye, your probably right.

Sorry havn't been posting here the updates was too busy... but i've been having regular visits to the htc agents here and they did everything from updates, formats to even changing the motherboard the last time.... But after 2 days again I had a restart. Funny thing was the first time the first thing they toldm e was to get a 4s Simcard and it should fix it and as I mentioned here I had already gotten it.

Anyway I believe they'll give me the credit to be able to get a new one. Now I might have the option to get some other device (I hope), What do u guys think I should do? Try my luck with another XE? I love the device but these sense and complete restarts are very major issues for me.. and I've read other people who've gotten new devices have still expierenced the same issues.
Should I go for the XL? Anyone knows if the XL has the same problems too?

Or Just opt out of HTC altogether and go for a nexus or s2 or the safest one 4s? Problem is I've grown much attached to android and sense!

it's a really strange one as there are people who've never had this issue... and no-one can seem to put their finger on the problem.

it may be worth waiting to install ICS and see how the phone behaves after that?

There are several threads on this forum by people who have gotten the update and are experiencing even more problems.. they might be fixed after awhile but the thing is I can only change it this week and if that. So i cant really risk it. But I also dunno if I can live with ios after getting used to android.

Off I bought this cell on November, the phone resseted after 2 days. I have been a Hardcore user of this phone = using it alot (GPS, Spotify,3G,Endomondo on at times) Used the phone as Navigation on vacations too! The phone it self is Very nice when it works, I have now delivered the phone 3 times back to the dealer were I bought it all the 3 times for the same problem. 2nd time the camara got broken so they changed the prossesor.... The phone has been a mess since week one : /. funny part is that I bought the same phone for my girlfriend too. it had no problems untill she borrowed to me last night, 5 min 4 resets, I think the battery becomes to hot and the phone goes to hell....

Well I've not had a restart since I last posted here 2 months ago. I did a few things - got a new sim, did a hard reset and reinstalled my apps leaving out all the ones I hardly used. I haven't updated to ICS yet but so far so good. Hope I'm not tempting fate here!

Pouya - I feel your pain lol! I think if it was me I'd change to an S2. You see I'm on my second XE as the first one had the same problem. Of course there's no guarantee it wouldn't happen with the S2 too - it is a noted problem with a lot of android handsets. But you would be very unlucky indeed if it happened to you again so I'm betting you'd be alright. Good luck whatever you decide and keep us posted!

well nearly a week after ics and no restarts apart from the sense ones which don't bother me. whole phone seems allot smoother especially when Playing audio and video on it. so I'm pretty sure this was a software problem and not hardware :)

i've returned mine today, the restarts/shutdowns have become much worse since installing ICS - 8 times (at least) yesterday and 4 times in the space of about 20 mins!

it also doesn't charge properly via usb. so back to the shop it's gone.

hoping they'll just agree to replace it, and as the shop doesn't stock the XE any more, hoping to get a One X!

Hi this is my first post,I previously had a HTC desire which was the best phone I've ever had it just lacked memory capacity to store all the apps I wanted. So recently purchased the HTC sensation, at first I was impressed but it would occasionally turn itself off and back on, most of the time it would be when I was answering a call. Then I received the new ICS update and it is happening more often. If I take the battery out and back in, it will cure it for a short while but sure enough it soon starts doing it all over again. Like lots of others on here wondering what to do next.

i really hope this isn't tempting fate, but I too noticed the restarting getting worse after ICS, as well as other issues.

i returned the handset to O2, who sent it back to the repair centre - they said they couldn't replicate the issue, but i spoke to them and said it was intermittent, so they may not have been able to see it happen in the couple of hours they had it.

the repair centre then couldn't repair the handset, so issued a replacement.

touch wood... having had the new handset for 3 days now, and constantly on, it hasn't restarted!

i'd recommend sending it back and requesting a replacement.

Hi Everyone

Okay here is how I solved my problem so hope it helps someone.

I got my XE about a month ago as a replacement for my windows phone. I had a 32GB card in there which was about half filled with apps. I am assuming that as a we are all on a forum a number of us are quite hard core users installing and un-installing apps frequently.

Now what I remember doing the night before last, was going through the file system of the memory card when it was connected to my PC and noticing that a lot of the data was not uninstalled very cleanly, so I stated deleting old data folders as 10GB left on the card did not seem like enough space!

I remember deleting a folder for Worms as I was sure that I had uninstalled it. Then last night I charged my battery and wanted to do the same with my spare so swapped them. This was when I noticed the re-starting problem! It was in a continuous loop!

After reading some threads here I was just about to do a factory reset when I thought that I would try the phone without the data card.

The phone stopped restarting.

So obviously It was some type of software error which had kicked in because I had restarted my phone when I changed the battery. After going through the 100+ apps and removing a few, I saw the Worms shortcut and remembered that I had deleted the folder! So after uninstalling this the re-starting stopped!

So if anyone has made any filesystem changes look to this area, as I refused to wipe either my phone or data card!

Good luck.
