XM Sirius App released for Android OS

Umm... why would I use this over pandora slacker etc?

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

Not sure why "you" would use XM over pandora/slacker, as not everyone's needs/wants are the same, but since I don't have sling, XM provides access to CNBC, news, weather, and traffic stations, along with ALMS races. That and Carl Cox (et al) DJ sets on the house/tech channel.

I guess so...thanks Monopoly!

It's not a monopoly, otherwise they wouldn't have been allowed to merge. Sure, they are the only satellite provider out there, but what are they providing? Music and talk radio programming. Guess who else offers that? AM radio, FM radio, online radio, etc. ClearChannel has Congress and the FTC in its pocket and that's the reason it took so long to approve the merger.

thats true but then why don't they consider all the computers that i stream from a second device?

Because they're not TOTAL choads about it. Like I said, don't bitch and act like they "should" let you basically have a second radio for free.

I have lifetime subscription with unlimited online listening.

I guess online listening from the phone is different then online listening form a PC.

I hope someone makes a third party app that allows it for free (when I say free I mean as long as you already have a subscription)
I know there was a nice app that allowed this from my WinMo phone.

If you already have online streaming on your account, then you don't have to pay anymore. All internet streaming falls under the same policy. I have a radio subscription in my car and the online streaming. I just downloaded the app, signed in, and am now streaming it. If you noticed, the wording/graphics for the "required" upgrade for this app are the same as the regular web streaming -- it's one and the same. If you can already stream on the web, then you can stream using the app.

Some of us actually like radio SHOWS. I listen to Liquid Metal, I love Scotty/Jose/Zeena and the crew. I throw on Raw Dog comedy, something that NO streaming radio service provides. Then I can hit up talk radio and catch up on the news. Oh and I can actually call in on the shows I'm listening to, which is neat.

If literally all you want is to listen to music that you personally pick, then honestly Sirius isn't up your alley. For me, though, it's way better.

And Pandora has too small a library. It seems like no matter what metal subgenre I'm listening to, they throw Pantera and Tool at me.

I guess I will just do like I always do to listen to Sirius and Stern and Use Wunderradio on my iPad. When I used my rooted Moto Droid I would tether the iPad to the Droid and listen for hours. Just waiting for root on the Dinc so I can do this again or better yet, hopefully the Wunderradio app will be for us Android users soon. They are supposedly working on it. Its by far the best radio app out there.

I love sirius...use it in my car daily...but wtf no Howard 100/101 on this app?

That's a total buzzkill.

I honestly don't get how they can even release this app without these two station. 60% of sirius users exclusively listen to howard 100/101...pretty friggin lame they don't have these.

Whats the deal? Especially since at work when I log in I can listen to it there...

I'm a big fan of Opie and Anthony (and Jimmy) and it helps me get through my day at work!. So when I heard that they would be included in the lineup I was happy. Doesn't make sense though that if you were coming from the Sirius side then you should get Howard and the XM side O and A. It's like the default is O and A and if you want Howard them you have to buy the best of Sirius. That is flat out a money making scheme. I don't care what you say.

This app is now just a bonus for me. It's horse sh_t though that they make you pay the online and to listen on your phone you have to have a premium subscription.?. Be interesting to see if after my promo period with the premium sub. if my phone will recognize I don't have a premium sub. anymore and won't play. What's the point of paying 2.99 for online- get it on your computer and listen but can't use it on your phone. Is that what will happen in that situation? Anyone know how that will work???

Does anyone know if the 128 kbps Premium stream is only for Sirius customers or does that apply to XM as well? I've been on XM for years and am paying the $2.99 fee for the online stream. I'm just wondering if it's 128 on XM as well.

Uh, if you have online listening, then you can listen on the phone. Where are people getting this notion that you need a special subscription for the app??

It's a total BS line. I have Sirius, as does my best friend, stepdad, and two co-workers. Of the five of us, two listen to Howard and neither do so exclusively. So either I live in some weird pocket or it's complete and utter crap.

I don't think anyone knows the truth about what percentage really listens to Howard. I've been a fan for 20+ years and I've been a Sirius subscriber since one and half years before he signed up. When I signed up Sirius was still just a nothing with less than 500,000 subs. It was literally the greatest thing since sliced bread back then. The stations were so unique and deep it was amazing. Now it's nothing more than commercial free FM radio with it's top 20 countdowns, repeating song list, lame interviews and annoying DJ's. Add the fact that Stern somehow blocks all access from non-sirius devices and I'm really disgusted with the entire company anymore. I can easily download his show daily, and am just testing out how happy I am with Last.fm/Pandora/Slacker before selling off the car and house subs. Just have to keep the wife's going. I've never heard of A Online Radio before, so I'm gonna look into that now too. Oh, point of this originally was that while Howard may boost his numbers a bit, there's no doubt that his signing saved the company.

It depends on what you listen to. SiriusXMU has a huge playlist if you like Indie rock and their Blog Radio bits can be pretty good. Spectrum isn't bad but their playlist is small compared the the XM Starbucks Cafe channel it replaced, still angry about that. Lithium and Faction of great playlists. Bluesville is awesome. There's some great channels there if you look for them. I do agree though, it has gotten a little smaller and doesn't seem to be as promising as it once was. Still, it's great to have at the beach.

That's why it doesn't make sense to me that they say you need a premium subscription and online to listen. I haven't yet tried this because I get xm in the car and also pay for online. Not a special subscription they just make it sound like you need both premium and pay for online.

I have lifetime subscription for my tuner and Online listening. When i tried to log in it said i had to upgrade to premium.

So $36 later for a year subscription I can now use the app :(

Great app but I don't think i should have to pay 3 a month to use it when I already paid for it in my lifetime subscription payment.

Pandora doesn't have pre-programmed stations, at least not that I know of, so it's hard to hear stuff that has just come out or will be coming out. Slacker will get you new music but their playlist and rotations are so shrunken that you'll hear a lot of the same stuff in an 8 hour day.

The XM channels I listen to have a nice mix of new music and older stuff that I may have missed. I like the variety of multiple music apps so this is awesome for me. Plus, I already have a subscription since my XM radio and boombox goes with me to the beach every weekend.

Well that's what I wanted to hear =]. Not sure if I'm entirely sold though.

I have lifetime xm with online....i downloaded the app, put in my email address and password and it works just fine. You might want to check your login information.

I have used XM for a while now, and when I found out they had the app for it I was all over it.
I downloaded the app, but when I hit "Login & Listen Now" it takes for ever!
It stays checking for updates and nothing happens. Did anyone have this issue?
I am wondering if I don't get a strong signal where I am.
Thanks!
