Root XML Mission

Okay. I'm just trying to put an xml file in the framework-res.apk. That's all. I honestly have no idea how to decompile apk's, tutorials make no sense to me, I really don't know what I'm doing, and I'm quite frustrated. If any of you have the heart to help a young noob out from step 1, (and it's totally fine if you don't), well, that'd be really nice. I just need to start over and comprehend every little thing I need to do to complete the task of putting an xml file in the framework-res.apk starting from Square One. This is on BACKside 0502, btw.

EDIT: Okay. I'm figuring stuff out. You know, slowly. But slow and steady wins the race! ;)
All I need to know now is where to put the xml file that fixes the notification text on my ICS CM7 Theme Chooser Theme in the framework-res.aok... the instructions say "the right location"... but I don't what that is!

Oh, no. Something happened. After replacing the framework-res.apk with this new one that includes the CM7 ICS Theme Update... my phone rebooted. And now it can't get past the boot animation.
Helllllllllllllllllppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp!! I have no idea what to do at this point. D:

I would boot into recovery and flash the nandroid backup you made just before making these changes (You did make a back up right? Right?).

Reboot into recovery and restore your backup. If you don't have a backup then you will have to reflash the ROM. This is exactly why you should always make a backup before making any changes.

I have a pretty recent (data) backup so reflashing the ROM isn't an issue.
The thing is, my phone will not go into recovery. I've tried, and no matter, what, after the LG Logo it just shuts off. :/

This is going to sound like a stupid Question: What buttons are you pressing to get into the recovery? If you are pressing the Home+Volume Down and then the Power button (and holding them until you see the recovery menu) then your going it right. If so:
Do you have ADB established on your PC?

Okay, I should probably update this thread here.
I was pressing Volume Up+Home+Power, but what ended up being my issue was my battery wasn't charged... hehe...
So, I got into recovery and now I'm successfully on BACKside 0502, ICS Theme. Amazing.
I might have had a bad flash, though, because I had some freezing/rebooting issues (mainly in web browsing, both Stock and Opera) and fixing the permissions didn't work. So I'm verifying the md5 of the download and I might reflash, or even go back to Harmonia. I had about 30 megs more storage there. But, I could just spend $10 on an SD Card and go for Link2SD. Ahhh.
