Apologies if this is a duplicate thread, but I'm feeling frazzled after spending literally hours and getting hardly anywhere trying to root my Xoom, and didn't have time left for more than a brief search here. I've managed to unlock the bootloader and install Clockwork recovery (but found, to my frustration, that it's erased every time I do a normal boot). I've had almost every problem in the book, including the computer suddenly refusing to copy the zip file to my SD card, thinking I'd "bricked" the device and only getting out of the loop by persevering for ages.
I've tried installing Xoom-Universal-Root.zip both using "adb sideload" and from the SD card when I finally managed to copy it there, but I persistently get the message "Cannot open Xoom-Universal-Root.zip: bad". I've got two copies of this and they're both completely different sizes, so I have no confidence that they are valid, especially as Windows refuses to open them (even if the contents are Android executables, surely I should still be able to read the file names inside?)
To make things worse, the only sources for this software seem to be littered with DOWNLOAD buttons that mainly point to malware - if these were designed specifically to frustrate the user, they could do no worse. My question is: does anyone know a reliable source (i.e. quote me a link) where I can get this file, and do they have any advice for verifying it?
Thanks in advance
