Xperia Z screen problems

In the same boat here guys. Hair line crack developed on the digitiser and screen was rendered useless.

Absolutely no misuse, no dropping etc. Just appeared out of nowhere. Again, I've been quoted

Has anyone else had trouble with the New xperia Z screen? Mine is less than 2 months old and has a crack under the glass, not been dropped or crushed and i have no idea how it's happened. The glass is fine but you can see a crack under it and the screen has limited use.Contacted Sony and they said straight away it's not covered by warranty and i need to book it for repair.
I've had iphones since they came out and have never broken a screen,i went for the Sony as it's dust and water proof which is great for my work.
Just wondered if anyone else has had trouble with these phones?
Xperia Z Screen broken 2nd time !
I just don't understand what the hell is with this screen, I thought it would be more strong, When it first broken I paid Rs. 10,000 and made it repaired with a new screen !
and now again my screen is broken and I'm planning to sell it off now or after repair I'll sell it off.
Don't ever buy Xperia Z guys.
Worst phone ever !

Even the sony rep says in the video "you will never break it"

I hope Sony have since fired this joker. The front glass is Dragontrail hardened glass, not 4mm ballistic Lexan. Drop it from 3ft onto concrete and, whichever way it lands, it will shatter. As a wise man once said, "You cannae change the laws o' physics, Captain!" :)

I've personally seen two Zs with shattered glass due to drops onto hard surfaces, so I know it's breakable. Gorilla Glass is no better/worse..... I've seen two HTC Ones and half a dozen S4s with cracked/shattered screens due to drops onto unforgiving surfaces this month alone.

I am in exactly the same boat and am waiting for vodafone, the phone provider to tell me it is my fault... Am expecting to then have to try and demonstrate that this is a phone issue and not my problem. Vodafone sold it to me so I am going to continue to assert that my argument is with them, not Sony.

I think that working on strength is the next thing that mobile manufacturer's have to work on rather than keep making phones thinner and thinner.

Investment in A more durable phone I think is the way forward now, but then saying this manufacturers will always have the get out clause by stating its damage and not covered by warranty but then again they should not publish "durability videos" of their products if they cant live up to it in the real world.

How many people recall dropping their phone 10 years ago in a car park or onto a hard surface and there was nothing wrong with it, These days you only have to look at your phone in the wrong way and it breaks, cracks or smashes and this is wrong.

Just my thoughts though but I feel that mobile phone manufacturer's really need to start focusing on durability now.

Hi all,

I am currently having the same issue as all of you.

I bought a Sony Xperia Z on 30/04/13 from Three and was very happy with my purchase up until Friday 19th July. I have kept it in immaculate condition and have not dropped or scratched it at any time, when I took the phone out of my pocket it appeared cracked underneath the screen. I am not sure why this has happened but I have seen that many other owners on this forum have had the same issue.

The Bluewater branch of Three was very unhelpful when I asked what could be done regarding my phone as it clearly has a fault. The man immediately accused me of dropping the phone and instantly said that nothing could be done about this issue as it would not be covered under the manufacturers warranty. He then advised me that I should perhaps contact the Sony customer services.

On the same day I contacted Sony customer services and explained the situation. I was told to send my phone to their repair centre based in Ashford Kent using their Freepost service. The post office said they would not send a phone using Freepost so I ended up having to pay

I have just created a facebook page for xperia z cracked screen, I thought it would be a good place for us to keep others aware of our progress and to try and get sony to recognise the problem, just search xperia z cracked screens

Well, looks like I'm not the only unfortunate being that has encountered this problem..
My partner had my White Sony Xperia Z in his hand to attempt to make a phone call, with no fingers on the screen, nothing touching it, no drop, no nothing.. Next thing you know a tiny crack appeared on the left hand side of the screen, in a position where 3 UK are trying to blame a very hard thumb press.. Bearing in mind that my partner is left-handed and this physically could not have
The crack was miniscule to begin with, then within minutes it spread round my entire phone and my LCD did not work what so ever, and when your phone doesn't work, how are you supposed to turn the thing off when you have no battery to remove -.-
I have reported the concern to Sony Support and they have requested I send my phone into their repair centre, but after reading this thread I would rather not be charged

I think you may have responded to my angry essay on the Sony Mobile GB post a few days ago using this Facebook Page. I find this somewhat amusing.

how are you supposed to turn the thing off when you have no battery to remove

Hold POWER+VOL_UP until the handset gives three short vibrations and shuts down.

It would be interesting, and potentially useful, to know if any handsets other than those purchased from Three and Vodafone are similarly affected. Unfortunately the majority of contributors to this topic simply registered to voice their complaint and haven't bothered to return.

I'm not sure how useful (or popular) my reply is going to be, but my phone has took a fair bit of hammer since I got it, and there are no scratches or cracks anywhere bar one small cut on the front screen, but that's only gone as far in as the screen protector (the one that came with the phone) and the screen underneath is still perfect.

The worst one was when I dropped it from just below shoulder height onto the laminated kitchen floor. It landed almost perfectly flat on the screen and made a massive crack sound. Picked it up, no cracks and works fine.

My phone came from EE, and I got it in April. I haven't removed the anti-shatter screen and I have applied the free screen protector that came with the phone.

Hope all you people with fragility problems get them sorted out soon.

My handset is from three, another interesting point would be the build date of the phones located on the bottom by the barcode, mine is a 13w06

This was my initial thought I had posted this on other pages.. Mine is 13W16 purchased online from Three on contract, I got my handset on 09/07/13 it broke after 3 weeks.

could it not be the build week? 13w06 (13th year week 06) = February 4th - 10th would fit with a march collection. 13w16 = April 15th - 21st in time for a July delivery?

Hi,

I'm in Slovenia and have the same problem and the service center still plays dumb for now. Never buying a Sony product again and strongly actively discouraging others from doing so, for lack of openness and support. I would be better off buying an el cheapo Chinese phone every few months instead of this junk, cracking in front of my eyes during unpausing a movie..

The fact it puts you in a position of arguing with idiots who say duh, you broke it yourself etc.. is annoying enough never to touch the brand again... Garbage.
If they admitted the mistake and took care of it, then it would be OK. Mistakes, flaws, etc.. happen. But to try to avoid direct responsibility this vigorously is just disgraceful. Mine is W1311. I liked the phone despite its washed out
display colors but the water thing was great for me. Until it broke and I
got the moronic runaround when you KNOW that they KNOW and are
playing and being DUMB... They should exit the mobile business if they can't handle it properly..

it seems I too have been dupped into a contract with a supposedly water & dust resistant phone. I recieved my phone mid July and by the Second day, yep that is, the SECOND DAY of ownership screen was cracked from bottom left to the area of the power button. First I had to fight Three and managed to get it replaced, a week later I recieved my replacement .... till last Tuesday it cracked again whilst I was useing it ...... and another fight with Three ensues ..... I am sticking to my guns on this one and want them to replace the phone on a like for like basis as the "phone is not fit for purpose".... I have taken this and raised a case with the citizens advice on this mater and I believe that they as the provider have a responsibilty under the sale and supply of goods act to do so ......the fight continues

OK, I took the Sony Xperia Z back to Vodafone today....At first they said that I would have to have it sent off for the manufacturer to look at :(

However..I stamped my feet (metaphorically) and said i wasnt leaving without a new phone, insisting (truthfully) that I had not been responsible for the stupid screen cracking. The girl in the store spoke to an area manager on the phone...and i guess i got lucky, because she came back and said 'as a one off..we will replace your phone'

I walked out of the shop with a HTC One (very happy :) :)

I will never buy a Sony product again.

Hi, i m suprised to hear that How you got a HTC one replace phone from a SONY store? do they sell HTC phones as well?
