xScope, a multitouch pinch zoom browser

chuck and helkimchee,

Lots of work ahead of me including:
1. Hiding address bar.
2. Customizable home screen/editable favorites
3. Popup window handling
4. Making it location aware (like on google's homepage)
5. Files operations (delete, rename, copy & paste)
Most like I will make some progress over weekend.
Thanks

I second the vote for #4. That would work a lot better.

By the way great work. I do find it odd that I have never heard about this other than on this forum and how low your downloads are for such a great program. I have been using it since day one and love it. Keep up the good work.

My problems on Droid

1. Sometimes you do not see the web page until it is completely finished loading (should load text first then pictures).
2. Pinch zoom still not smooth and fast enough.
3. Fit to page text realignment is a bit jerky.
4. Too easy to open a link in new tab when you don't mean to. Needs option to have a pop up which asks if you want to poen link in new tab or option to make the time the link is pressed longer.
5. Home screen text way too small
6. Slow scrolling on graphically intensive pages (this is a problem with other browsers too).
7. Fit to page does not recognize indented text. If there is a block of text with indented text below it (like a block quote), the block quote will not fit to age and will run over on the right side fo the screen.

xScope the browser is cool...getting used to the look. It is fast and reliable.
I have a question though:

After I use the browser and go to the home: if I reopen the browser it goes back to the favorites page. It would be good if the tabs would stay on the last pages that I visited. Is it possible to do so? Think the other browsers do it? Or is it that I am missing something?

I will make it customizable. Thanks

If you Exit xScope, it will load from start.
If you switch to another app or to your phone's home screen (pressing home button on bottom), and then go back to xScope, it should retain your last state.
However, there is a possibility that Android could kill xScope when not in front in case there is no enough system memory.

Really liking the XScope provided for us 1.5 users. When anyone has a sec, can they explain what the "prefer web content for" option is, most of the rest I have figured out. Thanks again for al the hard work ...

I maybe need to change its name as 'User Agent'.
Imagine you visit "http://cnn.com".
------------
You: knock, knock, knock, CNN, let me see what you have;
CNN: oh, I see you are an 'Android', let me show you my website customized for android.
----------
What if you just want to see things from CNN just like using a computer? So this option enables you to pretend yourself as a computer visitor or iPhone visitor.

Verbose here:confused:

Very nice. I just tried the 1.5 lite version and will most likely be buying the full version as soon as HTC/Sprint roll out their 2.1 update for the hero.

xscope, have you thought about using an issue management system? Something like trac is easy to setup, and it will allow you to keep much better track of all this. You can let the public add issues/features too, so you don't have to keep checking a thread and potentially missing things.

Thanks for the link. I have never heard about before. I am reading it now...
I use svn for tracking source but I don't have issue tracker. I use Google docs for taking user's notes though.

1st thank you for providing xScope free for 1.5. For a program in early stage(ie for 1.5), it's impressive. In love with the simplicity of the program and turned page at right bottom :D. All these time was keeping close eye on here.

1) Long press on back key just keeps on flashing the "time to say goodbye" box. Never in "static" position so as to make selection.
2) Liked very much the idea of "sidebar" on favorite page for quick and easy access as file manager, downloads etc. Only thing is lack of "depressed" state when selected. Always unsure whether I selected or not. I don't know how best to explain ;).
3) I found zooming easy. Only thing is need some kind of user control for max and min value. It just keeps on out/in.
4) As others, too easy to open new link in tab, most of the times scrolling interpreted as zoom function.

Keep on with your good work. Very much appreciated.

Trac can integrate very easily with svn. Both together should help you out quite a lot i think. For instance you can commit your code against a certain trac ticket, and it will automatically show up against that tickets history in trac.

Keep up the good work btw!

Thanks starfarer.
1.) I will have to test this on emulator and figure out what 's wrong.
2.) Good suggestion. I know what you are saying :)
3.) Yes. This should be customizable in future
4.) Also an option soon.
THANKS for those feedbacks. They help me improving the browser.

The android has a logging system called CatLog. Basically it logs all sort of information globally. So if there is a crash, you can see what was wrong with it.
I am start to think adding that. Is this a good idea?
crashed when used as default when linking from other apps.

2 is done.
4 is no longer a technical problem. So it will be off the list soon :D

I can now edit the titles of favorites! Why don't all developers listen to their users????? Thanks for a great update.

Today's update:

1. Who cares multi-touch. We have VERY smooth one finger 'Pin Zoom' in town. It is smart enough to not mess up your scrolling. Please read 'How to...' link in bookmark page
2. Better search handling.
3. Hard keyboard, if you are using Droid, can be used to navigate.
4. Homepage, bookmarks are editable.
5. Files can be deleted or renamed.
6. It is local aware now. (Websites such as google.com will try to get your location first in order to give you more localized results)

OMG the new updates are amazing as always. The pin zoom is so much smoother now. The location awareness works perfect now even with sigalert.com (thank you so much). I am so excited for this browser like a fat kid at hostess packing facility LOL!
