Looks like my assumption was wrong, and beige > yellow. :o

I've put LP1 on my own handset and if figures don't lie then the above is true. My dbm has dropped significantly and the asu has risen, plus the signal display in the status bar indicates one more 'bar' than I saw previously.

Cheers Slug!

Back in the land of the living and on 4 out of 6 cylinders.

So.. to recap. beige would appear to be a stronger signal than my usual, "all yellow"?

My reasoning for this, (wait for it!), is that on yellow with KPA, I get -93dBm 10asu and on KL1 I'm getting -87dBm and 13asu.

My understanding being that the lower the -dBm the better... and the higher the asu, the better.

I've also been advised by a friend that we're all wrong and it's not beige but.. "taupe"!

WTF does she know... she's got an iPhone!

Glad we got that cleared up.

That's pretty much is line with the figures seen by me; -5dBm and +4 asu. I also visited my parents during the afternoon and for the first time didn't have a brief loss of signal at one particular point on the route. That's KL1 vs LP1 btw.

So... in a nutshell... taupe is better than yellow. :D

I need a drink!

UPDATE

See post #36

I was getting -93 with 10 asu on kpa
On lp1 it's -101 with 6 asu with beige/taupe/off yellow/cruddy whatever! :)

The jury is out for me it seems.
Not noticed too much real-world difference compared to kpa as yet

Just to confuse everyone even more, (not least of all me!), I installed Network Signal Info, free from the Market, see here:-

https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImRlLmFuZHJvaWQudGVsbmV0Il0.

and ran a couple of tests on LP1 and KPA with the phone on my desk.

It would seem Slug, that your first instinct was right....

Yellow > Beige... rather than... Beige > Yellow

I invite discussion from anyone on the above as I do not pretend to have any expertise in this.

Surely colours are debateable but the numbers don't lie? If folks are getting better actual signal strength readings with LPI then it muswt be better than KPA?

Here's my battery usage graph for today. I spent most of it up in the NW taking photos around the Coigach area, and was lucky to have 2G coverage in places. Notice there's very little yellow in the signal bar.

You're right turbohobbit but, as my screenshots show, I was getting a worse signal on LP1 than on KPA.

In an effort to decide things I applied, "Occam's razor", to the problem and forced myself down to the local pub, known locally as the, "Twilight Zone", because of it's inability to receive mobile, (cell), phone signals easily.

The pub had always proved a problem for me, and everyone else, until about a month ago when I installed modem, KL1.

It was immediately obvious from LP1 that I was not getting a signal and my signal bar showed red.

I then flashed KPA back on and went up to some high ground and did a manual, "Network Operators", selection in Settings and went back to the pub where I now had a signal and could browse the web.

So for me, LP1 is a fail and I'm back on KPA. :)

On the phone signal bar mines always yellow. Is there a mod to change this? I dont see what the green and red marks are?

Or is a permanant yellow literally because my signal is awesome? :D

KI4 still btw :)

You really have got to take more water with it Rudedawg! :D

Go back to post #19 and read down old son. Everything will become clear... or maybe not.

Give KPA a try though. See post #1.

After that , to quote you Ironass "I need a drink".

KPA here I come.

I think the "wifi issues" referred to were wakelocks caused by the periodic scanning. I've seen none of that, but if that's a more recent release than mine I'll update regardless. LP1 is proving good with regard to battery drain (albeit it I've been hooked into my wifi all day - still knackered from yesterday).

Oh well... it was worth a try. Just happened to see it mentioned yesterday.

That's the spirit old son... "dip yer helmet in".

Apart from my, "pub", test I found that with LP1 I got a RILJ wakelock for the first time ever and panicked!

See here:- Wakelocks - XDA-Developers

What is rilj btw? I get these and A few others that don't seem to be anymore than a couple second wakelocks.

Ok saw your link nvm
