Root Yay ! I HAS A PRETTY BACKside !

Got BACKside installed no probs. Got all my "important" apps reinstalled, LauncherPro/icons/wallpaper/similar... Swype Beta..... Have spent just enough time with it to know it blows my mind. I can't wait to play with themes and whatnot... that'll be in about 12hours or so.

The *only* iffy bit i came across was creating my backup in CWM. I had something like ~250-300MB free on my SD prior to rebooting into CWM. Upon booting to the new rom and rummaging around, i saw that the SD had 0.0MB free............ It only takes a bit of pessimism to draw the conclusion that my SD ran out of space prior to the backup's completion. I'd humbly suggest that whatever the min. free space needed to create the backup be added to Whyzor's thread.

Now that i've been up for a period of time somewhere in between 2-3 days (lost track... i wish i was kidding...) i'm gonna go dream about whatever it is i'll be doing next.

I'll already be tangibly benefiting from this ROM... in about 5 min when i put my earbuds in and put some music on, that was far too loud (to get to sleep to, that is) using froyo's minimum volume setting.

Congrats on your BACKside! :D

I've only backed up one time in recovery and that was just before I installed my first ROM, BACKside. The size of the backup is 229.1 meg. I keep it around if I ever need to go back to stock.

I felt the same way the first time I saw BACKside boot up and still never ceases to amaze me. Every day I learn a little bit more and that lets me feel that I have ability to shape it to whatever suits me and make it mine, an outlet of artistic expression.:D

I will also say that there's more choices and ways to shape the way your audio sounds and that's a big one for me. I have about 2/3 of my sd card used for music and between having DSP and the eq on Mixzing (paid) I have one hell of an mp3 player.

I still find it amazing that I rooted and put BACKside on my 2.2.2 OV. I even got a black screen after flashing the first time but somehow was able to read threads on my own and fix the problem by flashing some different kernel. No idea how I did it and I'm not sure if I could even do it again :D

That is going to depend on each Optimus and exactly what is installed on it. There really isn't a way for me to tell exactly how much space your backup is going to be.

I was the ultimate newb back in May, just ask JerryScript. You learn by your mistakes and just getting in there and doing it. Reading every post doesn't hurt either, as you can learn from other members mistakes and solutions.

Hrm... so this is backing up more than i was aware of... so if i do understand correctly (now) - it seems that it wouldn't even be feasible to come up with a worst-case-scenario number :(

my backup was 210MB... Should i assume it's broken (to be safe), or is CWM smarter than me ? I've tried searching for this info but as CWM is too short to be searched for, i've gotten nowhere fast.

The size of your nandroid backup is going to be dependent upon the number of apps installed at the time of the backup. And CWM is an acronym for ClockWorkMod Recovery.

My newest backup is 1.06gb, my oldest is 422.74mb.

ok so i am indeed understanding then. for some unknown reason i had the idea in my head that cwm did what titanium backup didn't, and vice versa. i didn't realize cwm was all-inclusive.

as far as cwm goes, i'd searched for the full word as well, to no avail on this topic. I've figured more folks are using the acronym in their posts than not.

*goes and munches on some chicken*

Google ClockworkMod. There's the recovery's and the app's as well.

The main reason i wasn't fully aware of CWM's full functionality because after digging around in All Things Root (google too, fwiw) and finding there to be conflicting and/or out of date info, i realized that Whyzor's thread was fairly all-inclusive and up-to-date. I tend to over-think things and went the "simplified" route, knowing i'd have no trouble fixing any possible messups. Ultimately, i simply didn't know enough about CWM (note past tense there). My interpreting #8 saying "FIRST, BACKUP ORIGINAL ROM!" to mean *only* the ROM didn't help.

Ultimately, things worked out fine so it's all moot in my case. The only reason i mentioned the Size issue (and now, to a much lesser extent, the wording of #8) is for the sake of future readers of Whyzor's thread.

I'll look into what you mentioned, and see if I could get him to edit with some clarification.
Might take a while, I think he got a different phone or something. If he's still in the forum or in his other hangout I should be able to PM him to let him know.
