Root Yet an other phone lost in the world of custom ROMS.

This is just my observation, and at no time am I pointing the finger or blaming anyone.

I got this phone for my son in May for his Birthday. And like me he is a technology geek. It's a great phone, the CPU is snappy and has promise being it is a Snapdragon S2 MSM8655 Underclocked to 800Mhz. It isn't the fastest car on the block, but for a MetroPCS phone it isn't bad either.

I have kept hoping that someone with some programming talent would at the very least attempt a custom GB rom so I could at the very least have hope that this phone wouldn't be stuck at the castrating speed of 800Mhz and that the full ability of this phone would come out and shine.

But alas another phone has been forgotten and left to the red headed stepchild blackhole that so many other potentially worthy phone have been tossed into.

Thanks yall for not even investigating the possibility of something good coming from this.

Now that I just got to blow that steam. I am sorry if I have offended. I needed to get that out.

Heard that this phone got discontinued ...and for a developer to start on this device...he has to have it hands on in order to start development ;)

No its the Optimus M that got discontinued, the Optimus M Plus replaced it.....unless this phone did so badly that they stopped selling it...

They are phased out, but not because the phone had problems, but rather, poor negotiating on mpcs's side. The new 4g lte version with 4.0 is the same price, but they are otherwise almost identicle.

If u are refering to the LG Motion, its not the same phone as the M+. They aren't even the same amount of internal memory. The motion is about double what the M+ has.

They are no where near identical if you are talking about the Motion. The Motion is completely locked up and you will brick by deleting any Stock Google Apps as well as other stuff.

just curious, what were you expecting? that hopefully some random passing person would decide they wanted this phone and hey they were a dev as well?

you do realize there is more phones then devs now a days correct? when boost had just the prevail it flourished due to the talent on it, now that they have 8 or so people are spread thin.

did you ever try to reach out and contact some people about development? did you ever try learning development yourself? you download the source code and read the instructions?

somehow i think the answer to any of teh above is a solid no. which means you were perfectly fine sitting around waiting for teh magical rom fairies to stop on by give you a solid rom, oh and then port cm/aokp and all those im sure too...

im by no means offended, as it really doesnt affect me.. just happened to see your thread. if you dont like the situation.. dont sit around, do something about it.

@bfldworker

MSM8655????? try like a MSM7x27a and I did do a 1.5Ghz kernel for it. But due to not having the device myself, I couldnt resolve why wifi got broke on it, so I never officially released it. ;)

I stand corrected. I was going by the specs on Phonescoop.com. I honestly didn't think about looking on LG's website.

I have seen stranger things. For example. The Huawei M835, there is a small group banging out the bugs for a Cyanogenmod 7.1 and 7.2. You had someone making a Cyanogenmod port for the Samsung Admire. And those 2 phones while popular are far from capable.

That post was me mainly blowing steam. While I do understand not every single phone will have a custom rom, I believe that capable phones should at least have a shot at something better then stock castrated MetroPCS Android 2.3.5

While some people may not give a tinkers damn, I know that there are some that would give a damn.

key word there being popular. meaning more people and a better chance of someone willing to work on the device. what i said stands true, the galaxy note 2 on vzw is a high end device without much in teh terms of roms etc, as no one has stepped forward. in time sure, but you guys dont have that luxury. the optimus m+ came out at what 150 bucks? and its trying to compete against the lg motion a dual core ics phone for the same price :/ this phone was doomed before it even got shipped out.

could have been worse, you guys got cwm and can work on stuff yourself, the attain didnt even get that much due to samsungs crappy format

I've got this phone and I'm a dev, just not a phone developer. I have downloaded the LG android source as well as the stock source trees.

I was considering creating a patch from stock GB to the LG GB and then looking to hand apply the GB changes into later versions of android but honestly, I'm not really sure how to go about creating a new rom.

I think there certainly is interest but I haven't come across anything giving insight into how to go about doing it. I hate having someone else decide when to throw technology away.

All that said, I think the biggest roadblock for anyone is finding free time to do this.
