Root Yet Another Unroot Question

Kapit

Lurker
Okay, I've been all over these forums and plenty of others trying to figure out just where the hell I went wrong. I downloaded a custom ICS ROM after rooting my phone. Everything worked fine and dandy, but after playing with it for a day I decided I'd rather just return to the stock EVO experience.

So I've been trying to unroot my phone for more hours than I can count and nothing seems to be working. I'm hoping that you fine people will be able to help me out.

First off, here's the link to the ROM I downloaded: Update HTC Evo 4G with Ice Cream Sense ICS Android 4.0 Firmware | Android Advices

And secondly, the process I used to root my phone: HOW TO ROOT WITH HBOOT 2.18.0001 s-on 2.3.5...+ s-off revolutionary - xda-developers

Thirdly, some numbers:
HBOOT: 2.18.0001
Radio: 2.15.00.12.19

I've tried multiple RUU's and PC36IMG files and I'm intensely frustrated that nothing has even appeared to work. Any help you folks might be able to lend would be most appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

OK, why are you wanting to unroot? If you are just trying to go back to gb or froyo then you just need to flash one of those roms. For ginbgerbread I'd reccomend MikG, it is stable and fast or FreshEvo which is pretty much stock with the bloat removed. Here is a list of all the roms currently available. If you want to go completely stock but don't have any other reason to unroot, just download and flash one of the stock rooted roms. If you do that make sure you flash the super user app and install busy box as they won't be baked into the rom.

At this point it's a matter of comfort and vengeance. Comfort because I would just feel better knowing that the phone is back to normal, and vengeance because I spent so long trying to figure it out.

But, I'm gonna try another ROM as you suggested and see how that plays out. Thanks for the help.

Lol, I know that feeling. Still if you want a 'normal experience just flash one of the stock rooted roms at the top of the page I linked to. You don't even have to use the su or bb apps if you aren't gonna use root only apps. That way you will have a 100% stock experience while remaining rooted so you can change roms later if you wish. The only diwnside to doing this is that you cannot accept the ota updates, just turnoff the setting to automatically check for 'em and your phone won't bother you, if a new update does come out you will find it on that page within a week or two and it will be rooted at that point.
