Your Evo So Far

Great phone, only complaints are

1. Speaker volume. Way too low, and i am constantly asking people what did they say.

2. Camera. For it to be 8mp it takes grainy pictures. Yeah i know you can adjust the settings and blah blah, but it shouldve been ready to go out the box.

Other than that, i cant complain.

Oh and I need to add that I can't connect my evo to my car stereo like I do my ipod. I use the aux cables but nothing comes out. Smh.

I love my Evo, it's not a specialist but more of a jack of all trades type of electronic device. It's an impromptu camera for me, an adviser when I want to eat something but can't figure out what to eat or even how to get there. It's also my main GPS navigation device as well as my MP3 player, I use it as a TV when I'm killing time waiting for my doctor's appointment, flight, or while waiting for my to-go order at some restaurant. It's also an internet device so I can surf the web, check the weather. It's a timer for my breaks, as well as spreadsheet editor for work... Lastly it's a phone, a feature I seldom use... LOL

It's funny why it's termed as a phone, I use this device for everything else and calling is actually at the very bottom of my use list. :)

Have you checked with headphones? You might have a bad jack on your phone. I use the aux connection in my car all the time streaming pandora or slacker and it works great.

Yeah, i use my headphones all the time at work. But my aux cables just dont seem to work. Maybe i need to try some different cables.

One Word....AWESOME! Hands down best phone on the market right now. It really is a great device, and Sprints service the last 6 weeks has been better then I anticipated. If I had to pick a Top 3 at this moment in time I'd say the Droid X to be 3rd, the incredible to be 2nd, and the EVO to be 1st. All great phones, depends on your carrier and personal preference. EVO wins for me! Like someone said, not absolutely perfect, but close enough!

try a new cable, or even verify you are plugging it in all the way. i know that sounds stupid, but when i first used my headphones i was certain it was in all the way but it wasn't. some 3.5mm plugs are a little more snug-fit than others.

everyone else has already said it but ya I love mine too. small problems here and there(I blame the apps more than the phone) but its amazing, and everyone I show it to wants one. One of my friends named it fancy :) The Iphone friends hate it but they pay over $100 a month for their plan so that shows how smart they are.

I have had my phone since launch day. I have no issues with it whatsoever. Don't notice any light leakage, and battery life is fine. My only two wishes would be for better apps and a better video camera.

how do you do skype PC to phone???

how do i get skype for my evo...my dad has cancer and has been tryin to take a peek at my newborn son and he has skype on his PC...i have the Evo

how do i do this please help me this would be awesome

Up until last week, you could us the chat application FRING to connect to the Skype network and do Skype video chat from the phone. Unfortunately, FRING and Skype are battling it out right now and this functionality no longer exists. One of two things will happen:
1. fring and skype will bury the hatchet
2. Skype will come to android (not just verizon)

Either way, i'm sure we'll have video to PC soon :)

I'm on my 3rd week with the Evo. I have to say impressed. I came from a Hero, so this is a major improvement for me. My Evo handles web browsing pretty well. The speed is good. And I like Sense. I have not been able to put the phone down. It's actually a distraction at work. I'm constantly trying new apps and changing things on the phone. The battery is not the best but not a problem. I will have two charges. So I have juice all the time.

I am having a problem with the power button. it seems to be sinking in. Is anyone else having this problem? I am thinking about replacing it before my 30 days is up. My thoughts are the next will be the same way. I would hate to replace my phone that works fine for a Evo with light leakage or something.
Other than that, Im totally happy with my Evo 4G. I feel we still have the best Android device out.

Love it. I came from T-Mobile and G1 so I was already a huge android fan. In fact, if Tmo would've gave my hometown 3G I probably would have gotten a slide or the vibrant. Needless to say I'm glad they didn't, this phone is amazing and Sprints network is faster than I thought it would be. What's really cool is when I enable the hotspot I can connect my G1 to the internet, this makes my youngest son happy as he is the only one in the family that didn't get a phone. Now he can still watch youtube when somebody else is on the laptop.

I loved mine, but only got to play with it for a few days before the glass was shattered. I went through a super-annoying process to fix the problem. My choices were A) spend $150 on an ebay kit to fix the glass myself or B)pay the $100 insurance deductible and get a replacement phone. Both options really suck considering the phone still is in working condition.

I get it.. supply and demand, but I really this was a bit much. The insurance company is Asurion and they are not the best customer service-wise. They make you fill out a sworn affidavit and send in ID documentation to prove you are not trying to commit fraud. I explained my frustration with the process and was told, "this is done for our protection." Ok fine.. treat everyone like a criminal and maybe you'll catch one. Personally I found it insulting.

Long story short.. I am going on 2 weeks with no phone and considering trading my replacement in for something less breakable. (looking @ samsung intercept because it is sposed to be upgradable to froyo) I love the Evo, but man I'm gonna be stressed out while carrying it. :(

Idk what to do.. any thoughts?

With as many xda-devs behind this phone as it is. I love it more and more every day. I will love it the most when CyanogenMod6 goes live. :)

Fredsmith: Have you had any success with the Nook app and Adobe Digital Editions for your library books? The Nook device is supposed to be compatible with ADE, but I don't know about the app.

Had mine for almost two months, has had some issues but over all l Love it. I've owned iphone, moment, tp2,hd2 but this the best phone for this girl.:)

Im not all syked about it and having orgasms like everybody else is, but yes this phone is amazing. True "Mini laptop" in ur pocket. I only use my computer to upload videos to facebook. The battery various per user. Once u get used to and put it down yull be ok. Im still in the "getting used to" stage lls. It always in my hands. Oh, a buggy at times, but its cool

This is the best phone I would have to say out to date. I had issues with the battery but I got a 3000mAh now so this phone is wonderful :)

I've had NO issues with hardware (2 EVO's in the house). This is easily the best phone i've ever owned and me and cell phones go way back to the Motorola brick. My first car phone had a 10 number memory and cost $1300. We've come a long way, baby.

LOL was it the bag phone from Southwestern Bell? I remember that dinosaur, they have come a LONG way

this has been a great phone (i came from having several blackberrys)
i love the navigation, camera, kick stand, screen size.......etc

the only thing i dont like about the screen is that i cannot see it in direct sunlight (i dont know if this is a touch screen problem, since this is my 1st one)

the best part of all is that i can hold the phone any way i please and i still get reception without a "bumper".....shame on apple for telling people how to hold a cell phone because they made a defective phone.

I got my EVO last month used and it's been great. I've used my kick stand repeatedly, most of the time it's to help hold the phone more firmly while I browse in landscape view. I've never "over extended" the kick stand or bent it any way it wasn't suppose to bend. Last night for some reason though... it won't stay closed as well. It still has the "spring" feel to it. I have a feeling it's gonna get annoying now that it doesn't stay closed as well as it did before. -.-

My EVO has been great so far. I'm getting about 16 hrs of battery life with moderate usage, way better than my old Hero. I love it for browsing, music, apps, navigation and the camera. I love the sreen size, very pocketable but still looks so beastly!

Looks like most of you adopted the EVO from other than an iPhone. I enthusiastically went from an iPhone 3gs to the EVO and then regretfully back to the iPhone.

I returned my EVO a couple days ago and am keeping the iPhone 3gs for another 6 months or so. I really wanted to love the EVO - and did love a lot about it. It's just not yet there compared to the iPhone. I believe EVO and like android products win in the long run (just as Windows did), but they are a revisions or two away.

Loved:
* The physical device - nice, big screen; great feel in the hand; quality build; just a good design.
* The way the OS and HTCSense work. Improved design and flexibility vs the iPhone. But clearly not as polished and much more work for the to user figure out.
* camera - very good. Don't know how it compares to the iPhone 4, but blows away photos and video on the 3gs.
* voice commands: especially Vlingo and it's integration with navigation and other applications.

Hated:
* battery life - yes, you can improve it by working hard and turning off all the stuff that makes the Evo special; but the operating system should take care of that.
* applications - a number of applications that I use a lot are simply not there - like netflix, skype, WSJ... , and others like Facebook are just not as good an implementation (yet).
* synchronization calendar and contacts (with Outlook) - too gmail dependent (with some functions not supported, like reminders which I use a lot). Did not try the HTC Sync. However, just converted to gmail and this could become a benefit over time.

Indifferent:
* 4G - Live in Austin, so we have 4G most places (except where I live in the hill country, but that was no big deal with wi-fi). It is as fast as advertised, but I found it did not make much of a difference on a small-screen device. However, did not use for video conferring since nobody else uses the only application that works on the Evo.
* Sprint - actually this is a compliment because I had low expectations (based on 10-yr-old experience).

Conclusion: I expect to convert to whatever replaces the Evo in six months or so. Android 3+, HTCSense.com, native video conferring, upgraded nav system, more 4g coverage, fixing the annoyances & polish of Android, choice of Spring/Verizon/Other (need a carrier that has both a great Android and iPhone - my kids will switch from the iPhone, but my wife will never - she is the character in the cartoon "... it prints money ... I don't care, I want an iPhone 4"... I really liked the EVO, but not enough to keep it yet.
