Root Your Next Phone? (assume upgrade is available)

I am not thrilled about what Motorola has done with the bootloader, but I love my X. The battery life is good considering the screen size, device is reliable, and now that we have gotten around the bootloader we can do what we want. My wife has a Droid and that will likely get replaced before the X. I have had HTC devices and I like them and sense as well.

So- what to get? Well, it really depends if my wife is willing to give up the keyboard. I see no reason to replace the X until Honeycomb. It is likely between the Thunderbolt and Bionic. It is a bit early to tell as we don't know exact release dates anyhow.

Oh-- one poster mentioned a VPN problem with his Galaxy tab. That's a 2.2 problem overall, not just the Tab.

One thing on the bionic - the rep at CES told me that the bionic would be available "in the first HALF of 2011." It also kept crashing on me when I played with it. That makes it sound like it will still be a while before the phone is available. The Atrix seems much more put together and ready for prime time. And the webtop is amazing!

I used to have dumb LG phones on Verizon for 5 years before I switched to smartphones and never had an issues with call quality.
Regardless I locked in with X into two year contract and have no regrets :)

If call quality is important to you in a phone (why wouldn't it be) stay away from LG. If you thought HTC was bad get the LG so that you can appreciate the Droid Inc, lol

+1 poor battery and missing Sense on my dInc.

Bionic looks interesting, but not enough for an early upgrade.

Just to let you know verizon is doing away with early upgrades. Anyone signing up after Jan 16th on a plan that used to get annual upgrades will not get them anymore. If you have one you can use before 7/16 they will honor it but nothing after 7/16.
