Root Your Next Phone? (assume upgrade is available)

My Android experience this far has largely been spent rooting and romming my wife's DX. In the meantime, I've been carrying a BlackBerry Tour for myself.

My question is to all of you ROOTED DXers... Assuming you were in my shoes and carrying a BlackBerry Tour what phone would you be putting at the Top of your list?

I've loved the DX experience if that helps you to understand where I'm at. I'm nervous the Bionic may be too fat? the Thunderbolt is 1 core (i think).. the Samsung looks sexy but I don't know much about Samsung... However I'm not waiting another Year, March-ish is my buying time.

What phone would you be looking into buying if you weren't already carrying a DX and you had a NE2 available????

I am not sure on this either as far as what's been announced HTC or Motorola but as far as the Samsung, a friend of mine has the Fascinate and she likes it very much but for Samsung to not have 2.2 out even now, that's just crap.

And now that I have the Tab and their stock VPN doesn't work, the run around I got, I'll stay away from Samsung devices, I just don't trust them.

This DX community is amazing to me and this is my first experience with Android rooting and Roms etc. I understand what Motorola has done with locking the bootloader but the instructions and programs these people have made are incredibly easy to understand and implement. I'll miss it if I went to another phone lol
 
everyones going to heave their own personal opinions of corse and what works for one person, may not work for another...
for me personally its between the Thunderbolt and the Bionic. Each has pros and cons to them though so I plan on waiting till a few weeks after the thunderbolt is out and seeing the reviews before I make any decision.
Only 2 decisions I've made so far is narrowing it down to those 2 phones, and the fact that I WILL buy a Xoom lol
 
Thunderbolt, it was just released at the ces event and assumed to come to the public from march to may. But well worth the wait it will be.
 
im not a fan of HTC i had the eris, and when i noticed where the water damage indicator was i said, WTF! i myself do not like the sense ui, not a fan of it at all, alot of people like it, but i for one am not one of those people, i think i will stick with moto, regardless of locked bootloaders, cause with fab on the dx line i have been more than thrilled at the work that he has put out, and knowing that apex is the best rom for dx, im sure fab may own a bionic, and his work will be there as well, i honestly hope there is a DX2 i do honestly love the actual buttons, no accidental home presses or anything, so i will wait to see if there is a DX2 if mid year there isnt one, then whatever moto has coming or out already i may purchase.
but i do love this DX thats why im hoping for a DX2 with t he same style or slightly different with the hard buttons though
 
gonna have to be dual core, 4 inch + screen, not samsung/htc
dont care about bat. life; have an inverter in work truck.

(edit: this also depends on verizons plans to cap 4g, it will have to be unlimited internet or nothing; im not paying for something with a 3g limit or some junk, id just soon go back to land line).
 
I will be first one to vote for LG Revolution :) Bionic looks good....but locked. Thunderbolt looks as good, but wth bad battery life and poor call quality on my DInc I probably will stay away from HTC phones (do miss sense UI though)
 
+1 poor battery and missing Sense on my dInc.

Bionic looks interesting, but not enough for an early upgrade.
 
Bionic without a doubt if I was in your shoes, with the X at a close 2nd. I got the X, paid retail so I could try it and keep my upgrade at April instead of July if I kept it. I wound up keeping it.

And I still want to get my hands on the Bionic...lol

Bootloader, until someone tries to to unlock it, we dont know if its as tight as the X is. We all just have to wait n see on that front.

If call quality is important to you in a phone (why wouldn't it be) stay away from LG. If you thought HTC was bad get the LG so that you can appreciate the Droid Inc, lol
 
im still going to be waiting...all tho the bionic and thunderbolt are awesome..neither of them wowed me to much..the bionic would have but the atrix on at&t is better with the 1gig of ram and webtop..plus neither of them matched/passed the screen res of the iphone 4...?? Whyis it taking so long for anyone to pass that screen res?? the screen is freaking beautiful and i hate to admit it because i hate the iphone and that jobs guy. my next phone will have a higher res than that. So to satisfy my tech hunger ill be getting the xoom.. now that is hands down the best tab on the market.
 
If AT&T didn't have such terrible service, I would switch to the Atrix. I'm not sure how I feel about the Bionic, partly because it seems like Motorola isn't sure what kind of hardware it has. As of right now, the Thunderbolt has my attention; it looks like it runs incredibly smooth and the phone itself is gorgeous.
 
i would totally go T-mobile G2. Since Motorola keeps locking these phones down, htc can't seem to get battery life under control with big screens and Samsung is, well Samsung I would either rock the G2 or that beautiful Optimus Black.

BUT, if you can find a way to get one and it knows english, get the Meizu M9, that b*tch is GORGEOUS
 
Sorry, but there's more to life than an unlocked bootloader. It's a phone first, entertainment second.

I use less than 200 minutes of talk time per month. And well over 2 gigs of data. That alone tells the story.

I'll give you that we really don't KNOW that the bootloader will be the same. But I personally don't look for it to be any different. They know what they have works, why change it? I'd say they'll stick with this one until it gets cracked, then they'll crank down even harder on the next. But I could be wrong.

I myself do care about the bootloader, my next phone will be able to run Obsidian. Now I have huge respect for the devs and what they've done with the DX/D2 given the hand they were delt... GummyJAR saved my sanity! However IMO none of them compare to a true Cyanogenmod. But that's me.

Therefore I'm praying Nexus comes out with a dual core, 4+ inch LCD (not amoled or super amoled) screen and a track ball. That would be my dream phone as of right now. But we'll see what comes out this summer. And I'm really not in that big of a hurry to upgrade now that the blurless ROMs have settled my phone down.

I honestly don't care what anyone else buys, I am a huge fan of Moto designs, I won't deny that ever. If the Bionic does it for you, go for it. One thing I will have to admit, I've never been one to 'run with the crowd'. In other words I don't usually get anything just because everyone else is getting it. I ordered my DX when it launched, not knowing it would be one of the most popular phones on the market. But I've come to appreciate the fact that it is because this forum is INCREDIBLE!!! Seriously, I can't fathom owning a device that doesn't have the same kind of support.

Case and point, a buddy of mine just bought an LG Vortex. I went to that forum to show him how he can go online and talk with all kinds of other Vortex owners and it was a virtual ghost town. I was like, "oh.... nevermind". That would suck. So I guess once it is time to upgrade I'll be keeping that in the back of my mind. It certainly won't be my number one priority in a hand set, but it will be somewhere on the list now.

This forum rocks!
 
The 2 Motorola phones had my attention so bad I forgot about the other phones announced at CES for Verizon...lol

So I would include the Thunderbolt, Revolution and whatever the new Samsung phone is called in the mix at close 2nd too if I was in your shoes.

That's it?!? I use about 100 minutes 1500 texts and 6+ gigs of data.


So about my next phone... I'm going to wait and look up specs when they have become official and I will go by that. However, I prohibit did despise motorola but they proved themselves to me with this phone and will probably be looking into what the dx successor will be. Now that being said, bootloader is not on my list so it doesn't matter to me.
 
I use about 200 minutes with a family plan.

I opted for the legacy plan ~500 minutes per month for $10 less than 700 min plan.
