First flash a recovery, then create a nandroid back up of your current stock rooted rom, once done keep a copy on your PC for safe keeping along will a full back up of your SD card for safe keeping. Then find a rom you want along with the Gapps, then put it on the root of your SD card, then reboot into recovery, do a full factory reset, wipe cache and then wipe Davlik, then install zip from SD card, and flash your Rom, once done do the same for your Gapps, then re boot and sign into Gmail, and then set your phone up, once you have the phone set exactly like you want it do another Nandroid backup.

OK So now I need to pick a ROM and copy it to the root of my SD card. Also, the gapps.apk file to the same location. Is this correct?

Then I boot into recovery, and load these files. Still correct?

Is that it, or am I missing something?

Well, I just tried the ClockworkMod Recovery again, and it worked. I am creating the Nandroid Backup now.

I will let everyone know how it works.

Well, after a long and frustrating day, my Hero is rooted and running CM7.02.
So far, so good.

I don't know what caused the ROM Mgr to start working, but it did, and it works fine now.
