Zenithink ZT-180 1GHz 10" tablet

GPS question: I just ordered a ZT-180 and I see the posts about the GPS. Has anyone used the google maps as a GPS / Navigation? or any other type of navigation on the Epad? Do you have to purchase a GPS tracker or some kind of hardware to plug into it? Please advise what is needed to make the GPS function like a "TomTom" Thanks!

The tablet doesn't have GPS built in. The only radio it contains is wifi, and the only location based services over wifi are based on IP address. If you need a navigation device, you're better off getting a dedicated GPS unit (e.g. a TomTom) or an Android based cellphone (like the EVO, Incredible, DroidX...something with Android 2.2). I have an EVO and can vouch for how great the feature is on the Android OS--much better than anything on the iPhone.

Any good text editor for tablet with landscape mode? Other than GDocs - I can't run it without Market (needs an update and can't download it...)

Hello,
I ordered the pad yesterday and started reading this forum.
I read the post by Laharl on the result of the firmware update.
Can anybody explain how that should be done, I mean what steps should be taken :o

Thx

If you refer to upgrading the firmware there is a link in the stickie (thread) at the top of this forum that describes the process. It'll likely be a good starting point for you.

Hey Willcom, There seems to be different instructions for different things all over the place. I'm trying to write simple guides for every aspect of the ZT-180. Check ibeau.net

what is the problem with the andriod market not working on these pads? would that be down to firmware, as in because it is still really a prototype type thing, will they sort it out eventually? non to distant future? i think it will really open up then.

I believe this is due to Zenithink not having a relationship with Google allowing them to provide the Google Vendor apps... thus why we had to spoof it using files from other similar processor phone devices...

Licensing! Zenithink's pad hasn't been authorized for access into the Android market by Google because it lacks certain features and functions deemed necessary for access.

Has anybody else had problems with their wifi access?

I've had numerous issues including poor connectivity using wep and no connectivity using wpa. It's a major issue as my tablet does not seem to want to connect to anything if it strays more than 2 metres from a router.

I'm in the process of trying to uprage the firmware, although this went without success today so will try again tomorrow.

Anyway, wifi problems.... please help!

I had the WEP issue with the earlier firmware (0708, 0804, 0809) versions... but it's fixed in the 0827 versions... I had never tried it in 0818 so may have been fixed there but 0827 is really the version you want to be updating too anyway...

will it ever happen do you think? seems a shame really if not, also then are there anylinks to skyfire, without having to go through andriod market, since i updated to the latest firmware, it's dissapeared, that and quick office, thanks for the info about market.

I finally got my WiiPad NeNo (ZT-180) From U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). I had to provide documents concerning the wireless, and pay a $100 fee (ransom!).

When I checked the box, there was no power supply. It looks like customs lost it, though they refuse to even consider that possibility.

What type of power supply did you guys get with yours? I checked the specs from several sellers, and get differing specs:

220V Input, 9V DC Output, 2A
220V Input, 8V DC Output, 2A

More places say 9V, so I guess that is the correct voltage. I am in the USA, so I would need a 110V power supply.

i bought a new psu as the one that came with it was:-

A. very poor quality, so had an trust/safety concern
B. did't work.

i'm from uk so 240v ac 50hz-60hz is our mode of current

tbh i paid

also does anyone know where the sound prefs are for the jingles? as mine seem to have dissapeared and is now replaced by a 3 beep sound at startup, insert/removal of usb stick and shutdown, is very VERY annoying, this is since update to firmware 0827, anyhelp would be great.

How did you match the power pin size? I checked every power supply I have (about 10-15), and none of them have the same size power pin.

BTW, can anyone measure the OD and ID of the power pin? It would help me in getting a power supply that i can use.

It looks like the power supply huff_diggler selected is a universal power supply. From the one web site I located it seems to come with 6 different plugs.

Regulated Switch Mode Power Supply 2000mA, Switch Mode

Here's a US variable power supply on Amazon.com that MIGHT work. It's 1300ma instead of 2000ma but supports 9V DC and 1 amp (as opposed to the 2 amps listed in your spec's).

Amazon.com: Power Line 0900-77A 1300-mA AC Adapter with USB Charging Port: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Your mileage may vary here! It'll be prudent to do more research before purchasing. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure 1 amp will necessarily be sufficient.

I have an older Radio Shack universal power supply. It has an assortment of tips similar to what that one has. None of them fit the ZT-180, as it has a center pin.

I have already ordered this one:

Polaroid DSA-20R-12 Switching Power Supply 9V 2A

The tip may not be correct, but at least the output is correct. I can replace the tip. But I need to know the ID and OD of the one that it uses.

I believe you made a great choice... my kids have 2 Polaroid portable DVD players for long car rides and they use this 9v/2A PS and it works fine on this tablet... the yellow tip seems to be a standard for 9v PS so for once we were lucky :)

COOL!

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to wait even longer before I get to fire up my tablet, but the end is finally in sight. I'm not happy that I have to spend even more money before I can use it. But I have no choice.

Thanks again.

i got the tip from a mate of mine, he has loads of them from various psu's he's bought, just go to your local maplin/radio shack with the zenithink psu one, or just cut the tip off at the wire, same with the psu you just bought, use block connectors to put together, remember polarity!!! insulate and there you go, 1200mah at 1 amp is no good....

Does YouTube now work with the updates?

Does Hulu work?

It would appear not!

I've just upgraded my firmware. I upgraded to 0827, although my build number states "0826". Perhaps i'm missing a trick! Who knows...

Anyway, since the upgrade my wireless problems still exist (ie. tablet will not connect to wireless unless next to a router), and I cannot use Youtube. Before this i had a Skyfire browser, and it was very good at making the web look more tailored for a larger screen (than a mobile).

Kind of contemplating selling this now. Is this device ever likely to work properly? Is the wireless ever likely to connect?
