Zenithink ZT-180 1GHz 10" tablet

I'm new, but I've been reading through these forums for the past few days. Has anyone who received their zt180s verified the fake chips? I found this post fro ma different forum::

I'm crossposting my findings on Slatedroid and here so that people are not scammed.

It has been confirmed in China that the Zenithink ZT180 / Wiipad does NOT have ARMv7 A8 Cortex CPUs. Also Flatpad, Orphan M16.

In addition to many hardware quality control issues, the CPU has been confirmed to be an ARM 11 variant, with the Android OS running with the highly unstable JIT Dalvik engine (stable only in Android 2.2).

This also means this device is NOT flash capable.

Be warned

Phew this is a wait and see problem. Keep an eye on the FlatComputing site, the CEO was made aware of this just today (SUNDAY US time) and, being based in the US, would have to be very careful with what they say.

Pity as I was quite keen on one.

Likewise. I'm glad I don't make hasty purchases.

How long did it take to get the unit shipped to you? What shipping method did you choose?
I'm in Canada and I have no idea how long the wait time is.
I bought a refurb iPod Touch from the Apple Store it came from Hong Kong. Took less than a week.

Thanks
R

I ordered on Monday using paypal and I live in Singapore and got it on hand 4 days later, was shipped via EMS

How depressing. The software always indicated ARM11, and it was pointed out a long time ago. This could have been for a number of reasons, such as the android build being compiled wrongly, but to have it confirmed by Zenithink is heart breaking.

I will never buy another product from Zenithink and I hope other people with respect for themselves also boycott this company.

Even for a 1GHz ARM11, it is a good buy and would have made Zenithink a lot of money. Now they just look like scammers.

I hope the retailers all ask for their money back, or at least compensation.

After I get something else (Huawei S7 maybe), I will be giving mine to my brother as an ebook reader, as it works well for that.

I've read the flatcomputing team say that you get what you paid for in another thread, but while they might be right regarding the cost of the unit, we paid for a Cortex-A8 Android MID (Same specs as the iPad) and therefore we are cheated. They should be more compassionate to the customers that they unintentional scammed.

sad story. XD

I'd hold off for the next wave during the end of Q3 and Q4, the first worth while mentioning 7-inch should be coming out soon, by September

Samsung Galaxy tablet: confirmed for this quarter

The Galaxy Tab and this both come out relatively soon:

Velocity Micro's Cruz
Velocity Cruz Android Tablet: 7-Inch Display, $300 | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

both very promising. I am currently compiling a list of upcoming 7" tablets. 10" list is already posted here.

if your thinking about ordering one, you might be best off waiting a little bit....
ZeniThink ZT-180 Specifications Faking, Not ARMv7 A8-Cortex!!

I don't know whats going to happen, it seems as if all suppliers are accepting refunds?
Kinda sucks for me I have one on the way and its going to cost a bit to send it back..... I dont know what I am going to do, probably just keep what I have coming, I guess its not that bad.

Oh my! I'd probably have to get one for my birthday on September.. Hopefully all the bugs have been fixed by then

I wouldnt trust anything from Zenithink after that.... many are simply recommending to steer clear. There will be tons of quality alternatives by Q4 anyway. I'd suggest saving your money for something better, with a capacitive screen, HDMI out and supports FroYo (Android 2.2 - means flash capable).

If you can't wait, like me, I intend to get a 7-inch either Samsung's GalaxyTab or Velocity Micro's Cruz ($300) that is until the more desirable 10" come out, then i will actually use the 7" as a portable while the 10" would remain at home. Or just resell the 7".

So in a nutshell, what is being revealed about the ZT-180 apads?

The CPU is not what was advertised, (not Cortex A8 but is ARM11). So what does this affect for the device and the customer?

1. The device is not flash capable. (Does this mean you cannot upgrade from Android 2.1 to something else?)
2. The ARM11 chip runs at 800MHz compared to A8's 1GHz (so it's slower) and the ARM11 chip only supports decoding of 1080p video for mp4 format - no others (doesn't play hi-def video in a whole heap of formats).

Would that be a basic summary of what's going on here?

Apart from that the ZT-180 devices are still pretty decent value for money except for the fact that ZeniThink has lied to everyone and promoted the product as something better than it really is?

Yes, it is ARM11, which is about half the speed per megahertz, maybe 55% of the speed. The clock is about 950MHz.
The CPU does not do the decode. The GPU and DSP do that. And it is rated for 1080P. It may not be a perfect 1080P, but the software is not complete for this.
Device can do flash, but not the new flash driver in Android2.2 that Google and flash have been announcing.

Yes, this device can still do Android 2.2.

So ZT-180 is:

1. Half the speed that it was advertised to be
2. Plays 1080p video badly because the software can't really handle it
3. Can't upgrade beyond Android 2.2

?

Also: How does the ARM11 CPU then compare to the RockChip models speed wise?

3. not true. Just no offical flash support in 2.2
2. Most devices do this on day one, but this implementation is very poor, I have to admit.
Rockchip uses ARM9, which is even before ARM11. And this is clocked much higher than the rockchip. The rockchip is only able to do 720P with the DSP, so that is weaker. Rockchip has a much more mature android build.

Hi Icurafu
I have read the entire thread with interest.
I have recieved my zenithink in the last few days, and i must say that compared to my irobot, this is lightening fast.
i do not seem to be able to connect it to my pc through any of the ports, although the rj45 works and also the normal size usb port does take usb sticks. could you please help with connecting it to my pc. i also would like a working marketplace. and what does the otg mean on the mini usb port.
All of the settings seem to also point to it being a phone which of course it isnt, and when you try to do any phone settings it just crashes

information is as follows
model number P7901a
firmware version 2.1-update 1
kernel version 2.6.32.9
build number p7901a-eng 2.1-update 1 ERE27 eng.root.20100708.111326 test-keys

It is a shame about the fake cpu reports but for the money if we get a working marketplace and maybe custom roms with a hpoeful update to android 2.2 it will be fine

Well I have some posts back a page, about a few hiccups , and although I understand that there is a problem with the specs the reality is that this machine isn`t that bad in its own right. I took mine to one of my sons, an IT type , who has an Apple IPad , and after he looked and played with it for some time gave it the verdict that it was a good match for his IPad but at a much lower price. I think that for the money spent its a great machine, and clearly in a much higher league than my earlier M003.
Mine works well on Wi-Fi, it works fine in Maccas, and I have downloaded and installed another market type installer, so I have a much wider choice of programs now. Sure, its disappointing that it isn`t as the specs and yes mine does glitch from time to time but as I have said I`m happy.
I would be even happier if I actually can move up to Android 2.2 but for now its fine.
I bought it because it was meant to be faster than whats generally available in the lower price market - which It is, for the bigger clearer screen - which it has, and for the more sensitive touch screen - which it true.

You already have one, Slide Me - Sam 3.5, and I have download and installed
"AndAppStore" Client v1.5.15 which works well ( but not on a M003 which I also have ).
